I'm Catholic, and never once in my entire life have I seen a student center named after something other than the church it's connected to. That's thr point here. Seeing as how 99.9% of Alabama is Protestant I wouldn't really expect y'all to understand what I'm saying

This is true. Typically, we don't like papists, but sometimes they win football games and we forgive them for talking to the dude with a funny hat every week.

I'm Catholic and our student center was named after the father of our youth leader.

Are you Catholic? It's not common at all, it's actually freakishly uncommon. And of course Alabama of all places would name the building after their football coach rather than just putting a plaque somewhere to show their appreciation like most churches do

I believe this is the penance that was given to Coach Saban after he confessed to eating the CANDY

All joking aside, it's actually creepy as frick that y'all are naming a church after y'all's football coach.

I've been down there(Birmingham) plenty of times and it's fricking weird. They got Saban BBQ sauce, every BBQ restaurant or dinner seems to have a picture of Saban on the wall like he's fricking Hitler or something, and now they got a Church named after him. I seriously believe there is some sort of redneck cult down there that draws pentagrams in goat blood in front of a small statue of Saban. I bet some group of people down there sacrificed a goat for the NCG.

Pointing out that y'all are a bunch of freaks who name a place of worship after a football coach =/= being bothered. Thanks for your input though

Read again. The church is named St. Francis of Assisi University Parish. The new church's student center, built on the site of the old church, will be named in honor of the Saban's.

Well....the Saban family dropped millions of dollars on the new church that was built on campus and dropped $2 million on the student center that is about to be built on campus. Usually people name buildings after large benefactors who had influence over the completion of a project.

The fact is, the new church and the new student center do not exist without the Saban family. It was their brainchild.
