My main concern with this is that it seems that opposing players don't have anything to lose by lying to investigators about things they could or could've been offered.
That's a real risk. If it were a criminal trial, the jury would be told if a witness has an immunity agreement so that they can consider it when weighing their credibility.

If you don't think that Mullen and others haven't told their players to embellish the truth a tad then you've been living under a rock.
This is probably less likely than you think. If they tell them anything, it will probably be something like "just tell them what you know." They will most likely ask "did you talk to anyone about your testimony today" and "what did they say." Even a suggestion that a coach tried to influence testimony is a sure fire way to become the next item on the enforcement committee agenda.

Here's the problem with that theory. Once you enter lawsuit territory, not only does all testimony go under oath but any pertinent record becomes open to discovery.
And self incrimination, I believe, only applies to actual laws, not NCAA rules.

If a player was taking money from ole miss and went somewhere else it's not a hard stretch to say he was probably offered more to go to the school he's currently at or at least something equal.
If money was the bottom line then I might agree with you but there are plenty of violations that could have been committed with no money involved.

The NCAA is leaking info. About to get sued if this is true.
OM would lose that case if it even went to court. The NCAA has no obligation to keep anything quiet, but this is a typical cowardly OM response of "we fricked up, but we are going to sue you because you brought up the fact that we fricked up".

Some teams are a lot smarter about this than others.

Maybe I'm thinking about this all too rationally, but it would seem like the NCAA isn't just walking into other schools calling all of the players together and when one of them says, "Yes, Ole Miss gave me $425,000, but I didn't want it" then they just take their word for it and hand out punishment.
If this report is true, you would think they already have very specific info and if the players they talk to give matching information then they have corroborated the info.
Like when you find a wallet and a person who claims it has to tell you how much money is in it before you return it to them.
But, again, maybe that is too rational.

Yep. You can claim the 5th in a civil suit to avoid self incrimination, but if you do unlike a criminal trial the other side can imply you're hiding something
From the link (1976 SCOTUS case)
The Fifth Amendment does not forbid adverse inferences against parties to civil actions when they refuse to testify in response to probative evidence offered against them.

Again, for all the "they're out to get us" folks, this is hard to ignore.
They are out to get you now because you fricking lied to them during the first investigation. They gave OM a chance and you tucked it up. Good luck.

Its probably along the lines that other players names came up in something mentioned elsewhere, like testimony or they were on the same visit when something supposedly happened. They then go to corroborate with the other players. Similar to the Miami agent/player party a few years ago

Shouldn't they be investigating everything anyway? But seriously, state and auburn ought to be a little worried here those happen to be two of the most constant violators in the country.

Shocking, Ole Miss has bought those top recruiting classes lately.
Ole Miss wasn't getting top recruits without buying them because in the end, they're selling Ole Miss.

Family member works in the athletics department at Michigan, the NCAA has been there interviewing a kid about this as well.
How far reaching is this investigation do you think?

It's obvious the NCAA has a boner for OM and is looking to empty the clip on them .

The NCAA is about to bend Ole Miss over. Prepare your anus, Hugh Freeze.

Don't you know kids from NJ dream of playing for Ole Miss?

The speed limit in the SEC is 70 mph. Everyone is doing 80. OM is doing 120.

OM is probably doing 80, but they are maintaining 80 when they see a cop doing radar in front of them
