They are dropping the total team limit from 120 to 105. All 105 can be on scholarship. The change was to help level the field because some teams were going 85 scholarships + 35 “walk on” players getting a free ride through NIL.
The 105 hard limit should help the smaller schools down the line with extra talent being available.

Not at all. As it was 85 was all you could have on scholly. Yes, you could have more walk ons but you were limited to numbers of grant in aid players. Now you are basically going back to 1974. This is very expensive and widens the gap. You are gonna see A LOT of schools probably drop football and other schools drop minor men’s sports. Schools like ms state can’t compete in the sec in football with this and teams like Bama will drop baseball and go all in on football. Like was said months ago, Schools are gonna be forced to pick 2 men’s sports and focus on those. It’s just a matter of which ones can you afford. It is way past time Bama and auburn dropped baseball with the cost and the inability to compete nationally and way past time state, and others, looked at the enormous cost of fielding a football squad when they already can’t compete nationally. You’re also gonna see lots of “mid majors” drop down to fcs. Honestly, back to where they should be. South Al, southern miss, utep, UAB, etc have no business being FBS.

105 scholarship football players is crazy
Going to spread that collective NIL money a little more thin.

College football is such a cluster. Its nothing more than young men being forced to go through the semi-pro college minor league for money and brainwashing so colleges get $ under BS rules.

I wonder how much the portal has hurt some high school kids trying to get scholarships. Maybe this will give more of them an opportunity to make a big program’s roster.
