and still recruit. It's either yes or no and if he tries to stay on it will prevent them from hiring a WR coach. Plus, word is Meyer is set to go under the knife in late January for minor surgery and that if he does he will be sidelined for at least 6 months. If he postpones the surgery, Shelley Meyer is going to be pissed because the doctors said that the surgery is more critical than the leave of absence for his immediate health.

Anybody else hearing this?

If true.. who'd a thunk Meyer could out-Kiffin'd Kiffin in drama this year?

What makes perfect sense would have been Florida letting him leave like he wanted to..... instead of those jerkoffs talking him into saying it was an "indefinite leave of absence" so their recruiting didn't suffer.

Nice Florida.... way to "trick" the kids.

The people recruiting do not have to be the same ones on the field coaching. There is simply a limit in each case.

For example, Frank Wilson was cleared to recruit for LSU while Porter was still coaching the RBs for LSU. Wilson could NOT be on the field during practice, and Porter could not be recruiting.

Thus, Meyer would be able to Recruit or Coach (assuming they hired the additional one). He could not do both. And, one of the on field coaches would NOT be able to make recruiting contact.

Where are you "hearing" this?

minor sugery and 6 months to recover doesn't add up

How would anyone know what Shelley is thinking unless they spoke to her?

He'll do what he needs to do to get well.

As for recruiting, I have not seen anything about the NCAA saying he can't recruit. We still have the correct number of coaches unless they hire someone. Isn't that all they care about? I know we are talking about the NCAA and they don't make much sense.

HSV, you seem to be one of the leaders of the non-sense regarding this situation but I do agree with you about the above.

If the intent was to keep Urban around to save the recruiting class then it's terrible.

However, Foley would be called out on that big time and his reputation would suffer. I don't think he'd be willing to risk his "legacy" at FL for one recruiting class. He's never done anything similar and from all accounts is a stand-up guy, a great AD and loves UF too much to get that slimy.

If it turns out to be your theory I will be as pissed as anyone. Most of our recruits were OK with Urban retiring. If they end up getting tricked with the LOA then that's a bad deal.

6 months? Is he having his nutt sack removed? Hell, open heart surgery guys are back at work in 3 months. Nutt sack removal is wayyy more serious to me.

If any kind of surgery is going to sideline someone for six months, then IT IS NOT "minor." I've had five minor surgeries and one somewhat major surgery (complete shoulder reconstruction), and I never missed more than two weeks of school or work.

A minor sugery that lays someone up for 6 months doesn't sound minor.
