Charles Goldberg who is an AU beat writer and has been discredted on this board as another AU homer wrote this on Wednesday.

"Cecil Newton Sr., told investigators last week that he discussed money with people associated with Mississippi State."

I dont know where he got that info from.

It's still a he said he said. Rogers and his attorney say one thing. Cecil and his attorney say the opposite.

You Barners sure do excel at semantics. I didn't know they taught advanced semantics in those sociology classes with directed readings.

While you're defining things, can you define the word "is" for me?

building a case is more of using what is known to figure out a way to prove the party guilty. At no point has the NCAA done anything close to that. They are still trying to figure out the facts.

So, some you Aubrun fans still believe that nobody has any facts about any of this and it is ALL still just rumor and pure speculation. Have fun with that.

Proven, I agree hasnt happened, but I know you aren't one of the delusional gang. You just hate the rumor stuff.

I'll believe it when it actually comes out that it happened. Thats not being delusional, its just being objective. Until somebody can actually show me real evidence of a text or phone conversation where cecil newton tried to solicit money, in my right mind i could not suspect him of doing it. The only texts that have come out yet are between Rogers and Bell (or was it Bond?).

Now, that being said, it is still very possible it does eventually come out then all this speculation won't matter, but until then, its all just allegations.

And if you watch Cecil's attorney talk to WSB in Atlanta yesterday, you'll notice that not once did his attorney deny that Cecil had any discussions about money. He was very careful to say that Auburn and Cam were in the clear re: money talks and carefully skipped around talking about Cecil and money talks.

This proves nothing, of course, but it was curious that the Newton family's lawyer didn't take the opportunity to emphatically deny Cecil ever talked about money. The lawyer also said he was representing Cam Newton and seemed to shy away from Cecil. Again, proves nothing, but he was being a little cagey when it came to Cecil.

The second you post this garbage you lose any credibility. No one is "hating" on your beloved university. They brought this shite on themselves.

Not delusional; not objective either. Its called healthy denial at this point. If it were another progarm you would be much less "objective" about it. Being that it is an undefeated Auburn team involved, you are holding out hope as long as possible and trying to claim it as objectivity.

I don't think anybody is denying that the discussions happened, but what has yet to come even close to being proven was whether or not Cecil was the one to actually initiate the conversations and try and solicit the money. That is what is still vastly up in the air.

I had the same mentality I do now as I did when the Julio/Ingram stuff was going on and when the Dareus stuff was going on. I'm not one to jump on rumors just because they sound fun. Innocent until proven guilty no matter who it is. You almost figured me out though

I for one will not be surprised to see Cecil Newton go down and Cam be ruled elligibile to play at Auburn. Noone has tied any money to Auburn and Cam Newton yet.

What is the NCAA supposed to do, they don't have all the facts. Noone knows if Auburn payed for Cam. The season is almost over, so if they overreact and declare him inelligible then what happens, if it comes out that he was cleared. Then they look even worse.

I tend to agree with this.

The NCAA doesn't want to overplay their hand. They want a slam dunk case and they don't have one yet. They can't afford to be wrong on this. Can you imagine the blowback if the NCAA wrongly declares ineligible a black QB on the verge of winning the Heisman and the BCS?

As much as the NCAA would like to avoid a repeat of Reggie Bush, I think they are far more afraid of wrongly accusing Cam and having to later exonerate him when Auburn appeals.

Ergo, they are still BUILDING their case. And if takes them 5 years to complete their case, that's how long they'll take.

Auburn and Cam Newton yet.

You could be right, but it is not surprising that no one has tied money in yet. If that proof is there, it is in the hands of the FBI, and is not going to be something any of us will know until there is a public statement from one of the authorities involved (unless of course TMZ break the news).

I'm actually disappointed the Newtons didn't hire Jackie Chiles.

Correct.

Or to paraphrase Cam's lawyer,
I am 1 million percent confident that's what Emmert meant.

NCAA is building a case, but it's no where near airtight and they want it to be airtight before they make a move.
