What is the deal with Tennessee’s stadium? Limited real estate issue? I know there is a train track behind it. Just confined by terrain or other infrastructure?

Is it that out of the ordinary compared to other SEC-E venues? There has been plenty of success in the East but not near the fanfare. It is the lesser of the two divisions if we’re being honest.

I guess I’m comparing it to other Tennessee facilities more than comparing it to other schools. Hopefully someone will chime in. My guess it’s confined by terrain or other infrastructure.

It’s within a couple yards of most parks and has higher fences. Why does everyone feel it’s small?

The recommended distances for outfield fences are 330 feet from the apex of home plate to each foul pole; 375 feet in both right- and left-center field; 400 feet in straightaway center field.

Left Field: 320 ft (98 m) Left-Center Field: 360 ft (110 m) Center Field: 390 ft (120 m) Right-Center Field: 350 ft (110 m) Right Field: 320 ft (98 m)

It’s 10 feet. Not a big deal.

It's trailing the football and basketball facilities by a country mile. There's no question about it. Fortunately there are major renovations coming in the near future

I’m talking about seating. Capacity of about 5k correct? Other amenities there?

Stadium size does not = field size

However, your answer does clear up some things for us outsiders.

10 feet don’t keep that in the park.

Is this y’all’s ace? No wonder y’all had to go to Oregon for regionals

That dude just smashed a home run and looks pissed. Maybe he will hit it further next time.

For some reason some Vols fans are more touchy about the size of the field than the size of the stadium. I have a feeling Vitello is going to get a nice stadium expansion soon. Tennessee has the fanbase to support a big time program unlike Vandy and Florida.

The Smokies are moving from Sevier County to downtown Knoxville, and are building their own stadium in the Old City.

LNS will be renovated separately. Capacity will eventually reach 11k but I believe the renovations will be done in phases, and 7k will be the new capacity in the ‘near’ future.

You must be watching the game on mute.

Likely the same location. Knoxville is in the process of bringing the Tennessee Smokies back to downtown and constructing a brand new AA park. I wouldn't be surprised to see between 35-40 Million in renovations at Lindsey Nelson and then the *potential for a few big games to be played at the new park downtown

They need to build them a left field lounge type situation. Plenty of space it appears.

Adding 1,000-1,500 seats is easy and necessary. The plans are to build a fan experience second to none. The constant whining and bitching about 10 feet and turf is just whining and bitching

First step in the renovations is apparently extending the seating all the way down left field (with a new training facility under the stands), and expanding the porch seating in the outfield to a two story structure.
