I swear I remember it happening a couple years ago where they didn’t even get to play game 6 and someone went cause they were the highest seed.

It did happen, can’t remember who anymore, but that team was also undefeated in the regional. There are different tie breakers for how many games have been completed. In this particular scenario, the first tie breaker is H2H. If the teams are still tied after H2H, then it goes to higher seed. FAU and Florida are playing for the first time right now so the higher seed tie breaker won’t come into play. Also, as an aside, in the NCAAT, games must be completed for them to count. As in 5 innings does not equal a completed game.

They lost to a team that went 50-10 and would have been hosting had they put in a bid to host. What conference they’re in is irrelevant. A Sun Belt team won the CWS 2 years ago.
