Not that anybody needs to read this, but I feel the need to say this anyways.

1. This already raging dumpster fire is about to get a lot worse. Tennessee fans are will be vilified by the media, and I think it's pretty safe to say the upcoming hire will be a disaster. Tee Matin can't do this job, and that's probably the best case scenario.
2. As much as I want to believe this is all justifiable moral outrage (and at the very least, some of it is), we're kidding ourselves if we don't admit a significant part of the backlash is due to our being underwhelmed with the hire.
3. That said, Tennessee fans are right to feel underwhelmed with the hire. It absolutely felt weak and rushed.
4. As bad as it will get, there is the opportunity for some good to come of this. The Haslam family should be forced from power, period. I have no doubt they have real love for Tennessee, but it should be pretty obvious their desire to hold onto power is stronger. However, this will be difficult to pull off.
5. It's pretty obvious that the fan base has been pushed to its limit. Clearly, the administration (really, the Haslam's) thought they could just do anything and were simply relying on the fan base eating it up (as has normally been the case). They were very wrong. I'm not yet ready to congratulate the fans for taking back control of the program until we see how this all shakes out, but it is comforting to know the fan base is willing to fight a spiteful administration.

I'm sure I'll want to come back and edit this or add more at some point, but I just needed to get some of this off my chest before I head to work for the day and have to pretend like this isn't bothering me.

Good post, and I think this part is especially true.

I don't blame the fans as much as I do the politicians. For them to get involved over such a weak allegation with no proof is disturbing, they SHOULD know better.

If Schiano was a "superstar" coach, many of the same "outraged" fans would be tripping over themselves running to justify the hire.

This isn't unique to Tennessee fans btw, it's like this at every school with a major FB program

All I can say is I woke up this morning with a huge smile. Even after losing to our rival, and pretty much blowing the season.. Thank God I’m not a Vol fans. That dumpster fire is unbearable. The law suit alone will be a huge embarrassment.

At least Tee is a UT man, that will help. Hiring a good staff will be critical.

I think most rant posters understand this as well. The grumors really caused the UT fans to lose their minds, and anything else would be an outrage.

Fire your AD. He really messed this up badly.

Boosters need to be at arms length.

Overall, well said and rational.

Take away the PSU stuff with Schiano, and I fully believe you would've gotten a similar (75%) reaction yesterday.

After Kiffin, Dooley, and Botch, people are at their wits end with the program. The AD and administration expect people to pay for a shitty product 10+ years in a row?

And then of all the candidates to hire, you pick Greg fricking Schiano?

Haslam pushed the Browns to hire him and they pushed back. Haslam then pushed us to hire him and we pushed back.

The problem is obvious: the Haslams need to stay the frick away from UT football. They suck at decision making.

Too bad the AD didn’t think this through. Would have thought a few more people with some common sense would have thought this through even if the AD didn’t have sense enough to do so.

Tennessee fans aren’t to blame in any way. Let the media vilify all they want to. The media has been on the wrong side so many times I can’t keep up anymore.

I don't get how AD's are so incompetent, they have huge salaries, unlimited resources, and they don't use any of it when making major coaching hires.

See Barnhart at UK with Gillispie.

I have no problem with ut fans blowing up about a schiano hire, I wouldn't want that a-hole in Auburn. The problem is the excuse used, I would have helped in the March had the talking point been "he is a raging a-hole, we don't want him" instead of the false narrative. The old saying really must be true today, nothing sucks like a big orange.

I understand that but a lot of folks were legit enraged at the allegations that came out. Some just used it but there really were tons of people mad because they didn't want their university associated with that shite.

tOSU hired him BEFORE the depositions were unsealed in 2016.

There is no doubt in my mind that if the fans thought Schiano would have brought them a natty the voices against the hire would have been much much quieter.

I agreed with a lot that you said; but you and your fans have NO right fricking with a man’s future or his ability to make money and care for his family.

And I actually had respect for the Vols....

So we sit by and allow Botch 2.0?

GTFO

This was a lose lose situation that our retarded AD totally missed.

It's a really fricked up situation, and I hate seeing people get railroaded by accusations with no proof.

Politicians piling on is unacceptable

Is it time to sign off and sign back on as V&S, or David Ricky Bobby?

If you are okay with smearing a man for Saturday night “feels good”’ in the fall; than live your life man.

But karma is a motherfricker.
