Isn't blocking an extra point kick and running it back one point?

These posts are so much better than the flaming we usually see
I had zero clue this rule existed

I don’t think so. That is 2. Only a safety produces 1.

I have never seen a drop kick fg before in a game. I think just to juice up the game they should make a fg count as 4 or 5 points if it’s dropped kicked from 45 yards or longer.

That tiktoc is where my son likely saw that. I don’t do that stuff because I’m an old guy who screams at clouds. And bad drivers.

I’ve seen an extra point drop kicked. I think Doug Flutie did it in the pros. It was really cool. Should’ve counted as 2 at least.

Buddy, no kidding on the age thing. Hard to explain to my kids that high school in the 80s feels like yesterday. “Blink of an eye”.

Yeah that can’t be easy to do. That could add some real spice to the game if they would up the point value to a drop kick from a certain distance. That would get more people practicing it anyway. It would add a lot of drama at the end of games.

It’s happened a couple times I know of and Brad Nessler called both games. There was an instance in a game between Kansas State/Oregon and Texas/Texas A&M.

That’s pretty cool. Hell the rule is on the books they should up the point value to encourage more people to do it. Like I said it could add some real drama at the end of games.

So the xp kicker runs 98 yards backwards and gets tackled in his endzone... or... the center hikes the ball and it ends up 98 yards down the field in the endzone and the offense recovers and gets tackled in their own endzone.
Both scenarios are very unlikely to occur.

Yep. Unless penalties close the distances you stated. Seeing that happen is like winning the lottery type of odds. Which is why I didn’t know the rule. I mean...besides the beer.

That there was a safety committed by the offense on a 2 point conversion that awarded a team the only point of the game?

I think the Center for Bama tried to do that on the 4th and 31 play against Auburn.

The one point safety is rare.

The only other way to score a single point is a forfeit. By rule, a forfeit is scored as a 1-0 game. I don't recall the last time there was an actual forfeit. Usually these days games just get canceled and are not made up.

Actually it would be the 3rd OT, with a score of 0-0
This guy gets it. With current rules it is possible, albeit galactically unlikely, for a game to end 1-0. The game must end in a 0-0 tie and then at least the first two OT periods must result in no points for either team. After that, the only scoring play can be a safety by either team. If that occurs, the game ends 1-0.
