The 2009 Bama team would destroy the 1961 Bama team by about 70 to nothing.

The lineman from the '61 team averaged about 180. They also played both ways. I don't think it would even be that close.

Had you Dad seen LSU play bama that year, he would have known that LSU would have beaten them.

LSU shared the SEC title, destroyed Colorado in the Orange Bowl, and would have beaten Bama. LSU left half the team home with the flu and lost the opening game to Rice, and then gave up 34 points the remainder of the season.....

That would have been a great match up. Dietzel once said the 61 Tigers was the best team he coached.

I'm pretty sure Hannah played on that Alabama team.

He's got to be one of the best players in the history of college football.

It's just kinda cool to me that my dad cared about college football and can tell me stories about it now that I wouldn't have known.

It's all in here:

Good stuff

Alabama had lots of good teams and I am not sure the 1992 team wasn't the best. 1966 was good and this year's team was good. Who knows????

If the Hannah you speak of is John Hannah the All America and NFL Hall of Famer, you would be mistaken. That Hannah played at bama from 70-72 before joining the Patriots in 1973.

The 1992 team had probably the best defense ever(not just Bama teams). But as an overall team I wouldn't put it as the best Bama team.

That is great - my dad attended LSU in the mid-1930s and I always enjoyed his stories about Tiger football from those days. You don't know how much I miss him.

This years Alabama team would monkey stomp ANY team from 1961. The athleticism on college teams now days is just unreal compared to then.
