Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Balis to UConn.

He has been instrumental in our turn from annual doormat to leader of the bottom third.

We just built this guy the Taj Mahal of Strength and Conditioning Facilities and he leaves for UConn???

PAY THE DAMN ASSISTANT COACHES, MSU!

Will he still be the S&C coach there or did he get a promotion?

MSU is a lot more physical than they used to be. Almost to the point of game changing. They're getting better.

Same position. This is ridiculous and it happens every year.

AGREE 110%. The only way we can build momentum is to stop having coaching turnover. This one is huge.

Yeah, the well-liked charismatic coach that was Mullen's first hire that turned us from pussies that did pre-game 5th grade jumping jacks during the Croom error into a team that wasn't afraid to hit the other team in the mouth isn't important. Don't kid yourself, its a huge loss.

He can be replaced, but players loved him. Chad Bumphis' Twitter handle is BalisMade1.

Will they change the name of the weight room from "Balis mall"?

S&C coaches have to do two things: Motivate and discipline. The actual S&C part of their job is a little overrated. But they spend more time with the players than any other coach on the staff so they have to hold the players accountable.

In all seriousness I don't see this as good in any way for y'all. Wasn't he good friends with Mullen and his first hire? Why would he be leaving? It would have to be for a hell of a lot more money because of how high cost of living is up there.

This just smells of internal problems IMO.

Mullen basically "brought" Balis and the O line coach.

Nah.. He's done whatever he wanted to at MSU and been given the tools to do it with. Was praised as a S&C coach by Mullen and the players that saw the difference he brought into the organization. It's either $$ or equal $$ and a change of pace..

As long as the "Minister of Mayhem" is still around I'm good. I wouldn't sleep tonight if he left..

He's been around for 5 seasons...that's a long time in football employment. I never got any impression they were good friends. I think Mullen just thought he was good at his job and brought him along.

Not like I have any insider knowledge about the situation. But he is just a S&C coach. As long as we don't lose any coaches that actually have talent, I will be happy.

This has nothing to do with how it feel about his ability. I just think his departure seems very odd.
