Some of you Bama fans live in a delusional world...
I stand corrected!
At first glance, I thought the list was predicated on date it was last accomplished. I still say that Alabama's beaten a lot more top 5 teams than the 2nd place SEC team.

Can’t believe they fell that far.

I think it's because they lost to an unranked Purdue team in their bowl game. But I'm almost certain they lost because they just weren't up for the game. I mean...think about it. They were undefeated and ranked #2 in all America going into the Big 12 Championship Game and lost to a Top 10 Texas A&M team in double overtime. They then fell completely out of the BCS bowl picture and got an invitation to some also-ran game called the Alamo Bowl to face an unranked Purdue Boilermakers football team. That's a slap in the face as far as I'm concerned.

Ohio State was given a BCS berth in the Sugar Bowl despite losing to an unranked Michigan State team at home. Florida was given a BCS berth in the Orange Bowl despite having two losses on their schedule. Kansas State, 11-1 and ranked #3 in the final BCS standings, is relegated to the Alamo Bowl because of TV ratings. Disgraceful.

I think Alabama has 12 alone in the Saban era. Pretty remarkable.

Yup.

If we ran the numbers just from 1936-2006, the top 5 would look like this:

1936-2006
Florida: 14
Tennessee: 12
LSU: 9
Auburn: 8
Alabama: 7

Since Saban (2007-present)
Alabama: 12
LSU: 6
Auburn: 4
South Carolina: 3
Ole Miss: 3

well, OU(2010) should have finished top 5, they finished 6th but their body of work was easily top 5 deserving. 5 top 25 wins that season, only 2 losses with the last of the losses coming around mid season, and had 3 more top 25 wins after.

I have no problem sliding that bad boy to 6, my man...

Wins vs teams that finished Top 6
Alabama: 23
Florida: 19
Tennessee: 17
LSU: 16
Auburn: 13
Georgia: 12
Arkansas: 7
Ole Miss: 7
Texas A&M: 7
Missouri: 6
South Carolina: 5
Kentucky: 5
Mississippi St.: 3
Vanderbilt: 1

Seems weird seeing these Pac 12 teams in the top ten. But I liked when there were good West Coast teams so that there was good late night games to watch.

I remember seeing that Tommy Tuberville at Auburn had a crazy good record against Top 10 teams. He likely has several of Auburn's 12.

It goes both ways. Teams like Bama get the benefit of the doubt after a long history of success and a tremendous fan following. Kansas State doesn't have that because of all their years of mediocrity.

Tuberville had 3 in his time at Auburn.

He did have 15 wins against top 10 teams (entered the game being top 10 and not necessarily finishing top 10). Which is definitely a ton in a 10-year span.

And those 12 while not being able to play themselves, in a time where they finished in the top 5 every year.

Only one of the losing teams appears on the list twice (ie 2007 LSU) and they won the national championship that year.

Lucky motherfrickers.

Would have been 4, but 2018 LSU wasn't good enough to finish Top 5.

It’s not our fault every time we beat a top 5 team they quit the rest of the season

Very true.

Imagine if a team inscribed the score over a not-good-enough team on their Taxslayer Bowl rings. Now THAT would be kind of embarrassing, huh?

Oh. Nvm.
