Alabama and Clemson both have streaks of Top 5 finishes that look likely to continue following the season.... If you look at history, its pretty unbelievable that both are in the midst of such a streak at the same time.

LONGEST AP TOP 5 FINISH STREAKS:
14- Florida State (1987-2000)
7- Miami (1986-1992)
7- USC (2002-2008)
7- Oklahoma (1952-1957)
6- Oklahoma (1971-1976)
5- Notre Dame (1966-1970)
4- Notre Dame (1946-1949)
4- Alabama (2014-2017)
4- Florida (1995-1998)
4- Texas (1961-1964)
4- Miami (2000-2003)

With a win Saturday, Clemson likely guarantees themselves to become only the 9th program to achieve a streak of 4 consecutive AP Top 5 finishes, and it would be just the 12th time a program has accomplished this feat.

Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Auburn all lack such a streak.

The only streaks above that ever overlapped were Florida State and Miami from 1987-1992.... Florida State and Florida from 1995-1998... Miami and Florida State in 2000.... and Miami and USC in 2002-2003.

If both Bama and Clemson finish in the Top 5 this season, it will be the first time two programs have both finished in the Top 5 in three or more consecutive seasons ever NOT to involve a team from Florida.

Only 7 times has a program finished four or more consecutive times in the Final AP Top 4.... Alabama became just the seventh team to do so last year. Clemson could become the 7th program to do this, which has only happened 8 times.

Both programs are at the top of their game.

The consistency is what really stands out. They both recruit and develop their players.

They also have serious, continuous competition for every position.

It is a great time to be a fan of either team.

For me, my team consistently is inconsistent and fails to develop players and must depend on transfers to rebuild every season, but there is “no doubt, that we had a great week of practice and we must be physical and get our edge back”

But you are young and the future looks bright.

FSU was in a weak as shite ACC and Miami was in a weak as shite Big East at the time.

From 1992-2000 FSU went 70-2 in conference play in the ACC.
Miami went 52-3 in the Big East over 9 seasons. (Not every Big East school had a football team)

But great work as usual BHMKyle.

I assume a title game appearance pretty much guarantees a top 5 finish even if you lose. Has anyone tracked the finishes of semi-final losers?

This should've extended into 1999. We lost to Mike Dubose TWICE and then a coach-less Michigan State in the Citrus Bowl.

Nebraska finished #7 after losing to Miami.

Michigan State fell to #6 after losing to Alabama.

An undefeated team losing in the first round of the playoff wouldn't move outside of the Top 4 or 5. I imagine Michigan State moved back fairly far after Bama destroyed them a few years ago.

It's one of the most amazing stats in CFB history. Unreal though that FSU only won 2 National Titles during that entire stretch.

It’s a good time to remind everyone that Mike Dubose has a more recent SEC title than Tennessee.

Clemson

Their streak ends next season.

... and Clemson has been playing an ACC schedule all this time with FSU, Miami and SC down. Not to mention Auburn and A&M (rebuilding).

Next year they've got a tougher FSU and Miami (in the ACCCG) along with A&M and at SC.
