Yeah Berry's has a couple locations but I'm not sure I'd use the word chain yet.

Have you ever had their Catfish Pate? Indianola Pecan House makes it. It's freaking amazing. Don't let the name "Catfish Pate" fool you, seriously it's awesome.

The catfish at Larry’s is better imo. But I may be biased because I know Larry Kelly fairly well. Great guy

Agree-Larry’s catfish is the best out of all places mentioned ITT.

And also agree-Larry (the son) is a great guy. So is Bradley. I met Larry, Sr. years ago, and he is a great guy, too.

I live for fried catfish. It never gets old. Any suggestions around the Brandon area?

When I was in the Jackson area we went to Cock of the Walk and Penn’s. But that’s been ages ago. I don’t even know if they’re open anymore.

Other than that, you can shoot down to the places mentioned in the thread in Florence: Jerry’s (the igloo on Hwy. 49) or Berry’s (giant barn on Hwy. 49).

There’s probably some local places I don’t know about that do catfish. Old Fannin Mart used to do great fried chicken, but I can’t remember if they did catfish.

Yep we used to go to Penn's some years back before I moved (moved back now) but people say it's not good anymore.

I'm in Castlewoods so Old Fannin is close by. Someone said there is a good place in Pearl but I'll have to ask the name again.

You ever eat at Mama Hamils? Even though they have like 100 items on their buffet, I used to get the Catfish lol. It's not as good anymore. Bob needs to watch his business better. A lot of it is not as good.

ETA: Damn, I forgot about Cock of the Walk, yeah can't go wrong there!

I think between Hamils and Fannin I gained about 10 lbs. in the 5.5 years I lived in Jackson.

Ditto

I've been on the steak kick lately. Shapley's is the best in my opinion (Very pricey) but damn, those Hot Tamales , they could sell nothing but those appetizers and do well.

They got new leadership around 2010 that tanked their quality. They starting halving their filets and all sorts of other bullshite. They've closed a lot of locations.

Shapley’s is about the only steak place I really miss in Jackson. Tico’s was good, too. It has the better drinks and atmosphere.

I ate at Koestler Prime a few months ago and I wasn’t impressed.

We were out of the country last week and all I ate was seafood and tacos. I couldn’t wait to get back to a steak.

Nope.

It's amazing how so many successful businesses get sold etc and the new people want to fix something not broken. It happens a LOT in food.

Not long ago Canes was looking to sell. Not sure if it was just the one location or the entire biz. They are family owned so I assume it's the entire biz. I hope they don't screw that up if they do sell because I like me some Canes.

Btw, the guy who started Canes had this idea of chicken tenders and such and he could not get a loan to save his life. Even small business said it would never go over lol. His first little place was by LSU.

I'm a grill freak. Used to grill nothing but Steaks because outside of seafood, it's my favorite. I grill a pretty good steak because I have an old family marinade that the steak goes in for 36 hours. It's just easier going to Shapley's although it's not kind to my wallet.

Ha! Yep, although it's not as bad as it used to be. The licensing must be better, or something.

Now there are generally two. A brownish maroon, which popped up 5-10 years ago and dominates our apparel now, and a more burgundy maroon, which I actually prefer.

Plus our football helmets and jerseys finally match.
