Hanging in here, hanging in. So far, so good. It's good to hear from you again. Still got that big ol' dog? He'd be pretty old by now. We had to send our's back to her maker. We have a fledgling new board now, ITATExiles, drop by if you have a mind to.

I'd most closely compare it to Jackson MS. It's not that you can't have a good time there, you just have to really know where to look. Preferably visit someone you know who lives there who can show you around.

Montgomery and Birmingham have almost nothing in common. Bham is light years ahead of Montgomery.

I worked there for 4 years, and did a 220 mile round trip commute daily rather than move there, if that tells you anything about the city.

There are worse places.... not necessarily in Alabama. But it could be worse, I guess. Imagine Mobile without any redeeming qualities, and that's Montgomery

Just moved to Texas from Prattville this Summer.

Downtown Montgomery is great on weekend nights. One of the best restaurants in the state, Central, is down there.

Mobile and Biloxi are fun or it could be the lures of the Gulf and one city has gambling.

I can’t knock on cities I’ve never been to. I’ve not been to Jackson or Montgomery. I’ve been to Tuscaloosa (pre-Saban), Vicksburg, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock (yuck), Birmingham, Chattanooga, Fayetteville AR and NC, Charlotte, Aiken, Wilmington. All, except LR, have redeeming qualities.

Oklahoma City used to be a city to fly over or pass on by. I’m sure some still feel that way but we are fast growing, the entertainment and restaurant scenes have vastly improved. And a lot of it is thanks to various city government projects and the NBA being here. Stillwater is 90 minutes north. Norman is 30 minutes south. Tulsa is 90 minutes NE. Hell, Fayetteville, AR is not all that far off.

Here’s hoping Montgomery eventually becomes a worthwhile destination, especially being the state Capitol.

I lived in the Jackson metro area for the first 27 years of my life.

Jackson is way, way, way shittier than Montgomery. It's a fricking warzone.

Jackson does have much better food though.

Born and raised very close to Montgomery. It has improved since the 80’s but I still don’t understand how so many of my old friends moved back there. It is boring AF.

This.

Downtown has come a long way. Eastchase has plenty of places to eat. Not too many options though. Can't compare to the options in the Birmingham area

I got a steak there one night, and I shite you not, it was so tender I cut it with my spoon. It was incredible. Their fat sow fry appetizer is ridiculous.

We are not exactly a tourist type town. We have low crime for a city our size and this area is a good place to raise children. But we are not an "exciting" city so to speak.

Eat lunch at Chris's hot dogs. Legit place with tons of history. Presidents have ate there.

So the Sooner school is known as Oklahoma University?

Actually, it's an old Big 8 thing.

University of Oklahoma goes by OU
University of Nebraska goes by NU
University of Missouri goes by MU
University of Kansas goes by KU
University of Colorado goes by CU

Really weird.

Well that’s what I mean by legit. A good place to raise a family with low crime is the American dream. Plus it’s right down the road from Nashville. That’s where you can go for weekend excitement.
