Those are 2000 numbers you're using. I'm using 2011 from Bureau of Labor Statistics

ETA: Par for the course, Arkansas is cutting edge, Missouri is a stick in the sand

Not that I care, but the BLS numbers you quoted for Fayetteville are for four counties, one of which is north of the Arkansas-Missouri border.

The 20k folks in McDonald County, MO aren't impacting the numbers of the just under 500k total of NWA

Well, Fayetteville is twice the size, and I'd bet the mean and median population is quite a bit older than Columbia. This is according to our Chamber of Commerce....

Median Age of Population: 30.7
Number of households: 33,689
Average Household Income: $56,368

That was over a 5 year period from 2006-2010.

According to the local Regional Economic Development, Inc.

Columbia Boone County
Less than $10,000 7,196 8,240
$10,000-$14,999 3,260 4,446
$15,000-$24,999 5,811 8,168
$25,000-$34,999 5,318 7,197
$35,000-$49,999 5,812 9,247
$50,000-$74,999 7,023 11,003
$75,000-$99,999 3,098 6,099
$100,000-$149,999 3,483 6,246
$150,000-$199,999 1,420 1,961
$200,000 or more 1,140 2,032
Median Household Income $35,793 $41,006
Mean Household Income $54,445 $60,183
Source: 2010 US Census Bureau (updated 3/12/2012)

The mean is the average, btw. The median is the numeric middle.

Thanks for just copying and pasting a table of numbers. It's wonderful trying to read that.

Don't get me wrong, Columbia is a nice place (honesty for a moment!). But I think the presence of Walmart home office, Tyson, JB Hunt, and the Walmart vendors will push most of these stats in Fayetteville's favor. I can be reasonable when asked
