I am thinking about flying in for the game next year. Which major airport do you recommend flying to and how far of a drive is it to Columbia from there? Also, as far as hotels...should I stay in Columbia or a town close by? Thanks

I went for our game last year. I can't speak for other options but would definitely recommend what I did. I flew into St.Louis and spent Friday afternoon doing stuff there. Then drove to columbia and stayed.
I'm sure Mizz people can answer a lot of questions about Columbia, but I just did this trip a few months ago so can give you some help as well.

You can actually fly into Columbia on a few different airlines now days. Right now, going through Atlanta might be the only option but soon there will be flights to CoMO from Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas, maybe one other. Not sure if the non-atlanta flights have started yet or when they do.
If you want to fly into KC or STL, it goes like this:
KC - by far the easier airport to get in and out of. It is all interstate from the airport to columbia. The drive is about the same as from STL. KC has Casinos, Sporting KC, Chiefs and Royals if you are looking for other sporting events to attend and a nice downtown entertainment district if looking for bars, clubs and restaurants.
STL - A bit more of a hassle to get in and out of. The main difference in things to do would be the Arch. Otherwise, STL has Cardinals, Rams, Casinos, and the landing for entertainment.

I think it was about an hour and a half. It was far more expensive to fly directly into Columbia so I did STL. I went from Bham instead of Atlanta so I had a layover each way which sucked, but maybe you won't have that problem.
I stayed at the Days Inn off of Vandiver in Columbia. Not real nice by any stretch, but was about 2 miles from the stadium.

May have to try to get close to replicating that this season. That weekend, October 26, I'm hoping I get a couple of favorable schedules from the NFL for the Chiefs and/or the Rams. Can't really say I'll be pulling for the Royals or Cards to make it into October, but if they do I'll go see them play.

Rams aren't worth the price of admission. I'd go to a Chiefs game before a Rams game if you have the option. At least the atmosphere/tailgating in KC kicks St. Louis' arse. Flip if you catch a baseball game. IF either are playing, Cards games are a great experience, especially if it's October baseball. Nothing like it.

Come to St. Louis, check out a Cardinals game/The Arch. Then go to the game.

My advice would be to go with whichever is cheapest between KC and STL. You're going to get to CoMo at pretty much the same time all things considered. Good things to do in both cities, equal time to get to CoMo, so just go with what's cheap. Enjoy your stay in MO

I think the South Carolina game is late in October, so baseball would be over. I also believe it's the Homecoming game - you really should check out some of the activities in Columbia if this is the case. Friday night, Greek Town closes down and the fraternities and sororities put on what they call House Decs - lots of decorations, skits, dances - basically a street fair complete with vendors. It's cool, especially if you're traveling with a family. And of course the bars will be hopping. Saturday morning is the Homecoming Parade. The whole Homecoming tradition started at Mizzou, so it's a cool weekend.
