This endless debate over Missouri being southern or Yankee is stupid. Look at my sig pic and problem solved! Missouri= 1/3 Southern and 2/3 Midwestern. Game, set, match.

I agree, the debate is tiresome. BUT... that sig pic is retarded. East coast? I'll tell you right now that there is nothing east coast about St. Charles Missouri. Or any area around here. At the very best maybe the direct city part of St. Louis has those tendencies.

Eureka Missouri, which is in the blue shade on your pic is as racist and as confederate as you get in these parts.

While it is true that north of the ozark region is more like the northern plains, that blue area is just bogus beyond belief.

Hmmm ask KU fans and people in Kansas about Mizzou folks making fun of Lawrence getting burned, innocent people murdered, support of slavery, etc.

Lets get a few things straight.

1.John Brown (the radical from Kansas that raided Missouri) came from New England. Until the influx of EastCoast migrants, Kansas was mostly inhabited by settlers that favored slavery.

2.The border wars with Missouri and Kansas started a few years before the Civil War started. There were disagreements over deciding whether thier states would be for or against slavery. Hence why the abolitionists migrating to Kansas from the East Coast. They settled around Lawrence.

3.The radical abolitionist (John Brown) were the ones who started the raids on Missouri along the border. Missouri retaliated also. Then you mix in the outlaws looking to just rob and pillage and you got each side blaiming the other for that. You have a big mess on your hands.

4. These people (jayhawkers) were no Saints by any means. They were ruthless and brutal. You didn't have to be a slave owner or sympathiser. All you had to be was thought of as one and you were marked. The Pottawatomie massacre was a good instance of the brutality John Brown was capable of. His group drug men out of thier houses and hacked them to death because the Jayhawkers thought of them as pro-slavery. To be fair, they killed pro-slavers on both sides of the border.

5.Now you know why Lawrence was burned to the ground....Even though slavery was wrong, you had outsiders comming in killing people and imposing thier will, not only politicaly, but through brutal means on some kansas folks and alot of Missouri folks.

A large portion of Missouri was full of these vigilante groups. It was a crazy time to live in Missouri for sure. Missouri was truely a lawless state for awhile.

Tell me again why Mizzou alum, supporters, politicians blocked Southwest Missouri States name change for over 20yrs. Yes you guys felt threatened by a simple name change

Well beaker, I would think most would prefer not seeing their school's original name applied to a different, inferior school. Between your comments here & the novels your write on the KC Star's comments section, I'm guessing you flunked out of Mizzou.

Obviously it's not going to be accurate to a T, but its generally accurate. There's no denying St Louis has an eastern city attitude/feel to it.
