With the release of the LSU sanctions today, I found myself thinking about SEC compliance staffs. I asked a question about the newest member of the AU staff yesterday, and just looked at what the NCAA had to say about the LSU response.

quote:

Interesting aside. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Georgia Tech compliance director at the time, Paul Parker, left the school in April for another job - in the Auburn compliance department. Parker is listed on the Auburn athletics web site as an associate AD in that department, directly under compliance chief Rich McGlynn.

The NCAA Infractions Committee report said the Georgia Tech compliance director, without naming him, "omitted key information and embellished other information" when he wrote the ACC office seeking guidance on whether the two players should be declared ineligible.

One of the NCAA penalties against Tech requires that the AD, football coach, academic adviser and compliance director attend an NCAA Regional Rules Seminar in 2012. That penalty includes this note: "The compliance coordinator has since left the employ of the institution and will be independently notified of this requirement."

quote:

NCAA Committee on Infractions chairman Dennis Thomas said LSU's violations were considered "major." He stressed that punishment could have been more severe if not for the efforts of LSU's compliance department.

He pointed specifically to senior associate athletic director Miriam Segar, who became suspicious of Hicks' living arrangements from the time he arrived in Baton Rouge. According to an earlier LSU report on the matter, Segar spent weeks pressing for answers and made the decision to bar Hicks from traveling to LSU's 2009 season-opening game at Washington because she was unsatisfied with the information she had received.

"That was critical," said Thomas, who is also the commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. "If that had not been done, the institution could have really been under more severe and serious penalties as well."

My question to AU fans is this...Do you feel that if AU is presented with accusations a response similiar to what was given to LSU will be given to your university?

Yes. Speaking of compliance staffs, out of the last 15 years, how many of those years have Bama's football program been on probation?

How many sports are currently on probation now?

You ask 'questions' all the time in threads.

So you start a thread critiquing compliance staffs and wont even answer a simple question regarding your own staff?

You really want this guy from GA Tech to be the anti-Christ or something don't you?

Let it go. If the guy is a douche bag, then Auburn is the worse for it. However, you and I will never know exactly how it all went down at Tech. You have to believe that the folks at Auburn know more about it than you and I do and they still hired him.

So him releasing false info about eligibility in the past doesn't concern you?
