Probably so, but maybe like the friend, I prefer to deal in facts than perception that isn't based on any analysis.

you can bury facts in analysis with angles.

bottom line. 1 foot separated LSU from losing to MSU last week. and multiple other things like that have happened in Miles' favor.

Well, he's definitely lucky. Perhaps there's enough talent to live on lucky, and that works for me. It makes it fun to watch LSU...unless you're a fan. You're glad to win, but not satisfied with having to be lucky to win. It's why I love it.

I like how Bama fan's say we were winning w/ Saban's players, but can't admit that he is winning w/ Shula's guys.

You don't think Saban has ever had luck ? What if Auburn beats Alabama in 2001 ? No SEC West title. Of if Florida had beaten Tennessee. Florida would have beaten LSU again that year. No SEC title and a probable loss to Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. 8-4 and then 8-5 would have soured the fans somewhat. Then in 2002 if not for the Bluegrass Miracle and Eli throwing one off his FB's head that gets intercepted on the LSU 10, LSU is 6-6.

2004 Oregon State misses THREE extra points. Last minute touchdowns vs a Florida team that got Zook fired a week later with a loss to Miss State and a last minute win over TROY,yea,Troy. Saban came "that" close to 8-5 in 2001,6-6 in 2002 and 6-5 in 2004.

Hate to break it to you,but Saban doesn't walk on water.

Saban can just about win with anybody's players. That is one coach who instills tough-arse football in his players and other coaches, and his way is the winning way. He can come in, stay 4 or 5 years, and then leave again anytime he wants in my book. He brought championship football to LSU.

come ON I-59.. you know there's a reason Miles gets called lucky. don't sit here and become one of 'those guys' and argue the finer statistics. besides, as soon as y'all realize the boat needs a new captain, the better y'all are gonna be right?

i don't give a damn what Saban does or doesn't do. one damn thing he knows a lot about, is making a football program kick arse.

Why is Miles lucky and not other coaches ? Mike Leach was "brilliant" for throwing for a last second td vs Texas instead of kicking a fg last year. The Bluegrass Miracle was "just something we practice every day."

Leach doesn't get it because he's not as big a name as Miles. Miles has a NC.

I'd disagree with this statement. He makes a team consistent but he does not reach the top levels and upset top teams without top talent that is his history. Saban is a solid coach but his niche is getting massive amounts of talent. Some coaches are great game day coaches but average recruits, others are great recruiters but average game day, each coach plays to his strengths.

elite coaches are both. saban coaches championship teams with championship mentalities.

Luck is totally a matter of perception. AS pointed out Saban has had plenty of "luck." At Bama, he got lucky in 2007 on what Ole Miss fans contend was a questionable call on a pass play that was ruled incomplete that would have set Ole Miss up with a strong chance to win the t game. If that had happened to Miles, some people would declare it luck. It happens to Saban, but nothing is said about how lucky Saban is.

It is easier to say someone is lucky when that person is successful in close calls if you want to paint that perception and ignore similar circumstances for someone else who is perceived as not having to rely on luck.

If he is so great and without flaws, how was his stay in Miami such a disaster ? Also,if he's such a builder of programs and left Miles such a gold mine, why did Michigan State dissolve back to nothing in such a short period ?

because he's badass, and everyone knows it. so luck happens, but he doesn't require luck to win.

Mile's image has been perpetuated as positive due to a good many strokes of luck.

Miles is a good coach. not a great coach. luck makes him seem better than he is.

some say it's better to be lucky than good. i tend to disagree, but the guys writing the checks don't. so in the end, for the man, it doesn't matter if he is lucky or great.

1 dash lucky
4 dashes of good
=1 perceived great coach
