This isn't just about money. It's much harder to go 10-2 at Aggie than PennSt.
Playoff appearances are what keeps you getting checks. Aggie isn't going to the playoff this season.
PennSt is humiliated right now. And their next two opponents are OhioSt and Indiana, so they are going to come hard.
Elko isn't a Tejas guy. Aggie needs to be really thinking of who their next hire will be.

I wouldn't discount PSU for Elko, given that he is from the NorthEast. However, I don't think you are really looking at what Elko makes before his inevitable raise. If A&M makes the playoffs, he will be North of 10M. If A&M makes it to the final then north of 15M. If he wins the whole enchilada then he's set to make around 17.5M.
I think PSU has their sights on somebody else but even then A&M has the money to keep him under any circumstance, UNLESS he just wants to go home.
