This is dumb. He’s resigning because his arse is getting fired if he doesn’t.
The NIL thing is just a red herring.

Define plenty. How often are professionals on an active roster retiring in the middle of the year?
There are probably minor league baseball players that do it every year. Pretty sure Vontae Davis retired at halftime of a game

A quick google search shows that it happens more often than you would think.

Yeah so maybe there were some players that were buying into his message. Which was probably a lot of “playing together as one” and “being committed to the team” and “not quitting”. You know the typical shite that coaches say. Maybe those players would feel wronged.

I know about Davis. I would say that’s an exception and isn’t universally thought of as a good thing. You said plenty of guys do it then listed one example and said minor league guys probably do it.

Apparently not enough of them were, based on the record.

Google exists. Type in “NFL/NBA/Baseball players that retired midseason”
It will give you many names. Some got tired of dealing with injuries. Some had mental breakdowns. Some aren’t looked at favorably. But look at the guy who walked out during a game for the 49ers. Y’all’s logic not only calls him a quitter (fine), but you’re also suggesting you want him to stick it out on the team for the rest of the year. frick that. If he walks, he can keep going.

1. Even coaching a junior high team is more sophisticated than that.
2. That said, are those bad messages to convey to the team? If my team doesn’t “play together” or “commit to the team”, then maybe they need a new voice?

No, we aren’t saying he should try to go back to the team after walking out. We are saying he shouldn’t walk out in the first place. Horrible comparison.

Dude was “done” mentally whether he walked out or not.

If every player that was “done” mentally at one point in the season quit mid season, you’d have a major problem. Dude was pissed that Dre Greenlaw was getting PT over him after returning from injury. He wasn’t “checked out” before that happened.

And he quit. Addition by subtraction.
Larranaga is done. He quit. Addition by subtraction.
Orgeron was half assing it too about halfway into 2020. He could have done LSU a favor and quit. I want my coaches to be all in all the time.

Yep.

And the 49ers just had to shut Greenlaw down for the year. So now they are down two LB. If they were still in contention it would be a major problem for them.

Well they announced he wasn't returning in October, but he coached for the rest of the season. So if it was best for the team for him to not be around anymore why did they keep him around for the rest of the year?

Difference of opinion. Some coaches get canned midseason and pack their stuff up ASAP (Eberflus), and some get “lucky” enough to hang around.
I would have been fine with Orgeron leaving midseason. He was more interested in chasing women. I’ll say it again…I want the coach of my time all in.
