Don't forget about the old pirate Mike Leach.

Nice things about Doral? Miami Gardens? Etc....????
I don't have a tourist's view of the area.

This isn't exactly the best kept secret. Miami may go after another COord but I'm very doubtful, this is a program dying to get back in the national spotlight. I expect them to throw major cash at a HC. They could go after Harbaugh but that is a risky hire as he will be in the NFL in a few short years but he could get them national attention for a short time before he moves on.

I've got something bad to say about Miami. Gas station clerks who speak to you in Spanish, and when you just stand there and shake your head, they snatch the money from your hand, give you the change, and say "learn to speak the language!"

I don't think Donna Shalala cares, JMHO.

SI seems to think richt or mullen for miami job:
A smart up-and-comer would walk across broken glass to get the Miami job. It won't pay as much as other marquee jobs, and while the Hurricanes have earmarked money to improve their facilities, they still don't have the palaces other major programs do. What they do have is a roster that can win the ACC next year and compete for national titles quickly. Even more important is a fertile recruiting ground loaded with exceptional athletes who aren't so young that they don't remember when national champions emerged from the smoke at the Orange Bowl.
Who should the Hurricanes pursue? Mike Leach is jobless in Key West, but the Hurricanes don't need to be an Air Raid team to win. They can collect the talent to run a pro-style system. Which brings us to Miami alum Mark Richt. Richt makes more at Georgia than Miami could ever pay, but Miami could offer a fresh start for a coach who never satisfied Bulldogs fans -- even with six double-digit win seasons in 10 years.
Mississippi State's Dan Mullen is another possibility, especially if he can convince Bulldogs' defensive coordinator Manny Diaz -- the son of Miami's former mayor -- to come along to Coral Gables. Mullen may prefer having an SEC job, but Mississippi State will always chase Alabama, Auburn and LSU for players in the SEC West. Win at Miami, and the four- and five-star athletes will beat a path to your door.

There's been rumblings from several different Miami websites about Jon Gruden being very interested in the Miami job.

I could understand why. Outside the nice and extremely expensive parts, you are talking about what is basically a 3rd world country (in language, poverty, crime, etc). And if you live in the nice parts, you are dealing with the most conceited people on earth. As a young single guy....awesome. It is not exactly where you want your kids calling home though. But for 3 million and the chance to restore the biggest dynasty in modern college football, almost anyone not currently at a top 10-15 program takes that job.

This is very key here. Shalala, unless she changes her stance, will not invest in athletics. Focus is purely academic.

Summed up nicely.

If I were a Miami fan I'd want no part of Richt

Miami football fans don't like her, but she's actually done a great job at improving Miami as an academic institution. They'll probably take their rightful place above UF in the rankings back soon.

True on both counts. I cannot tell you what one of their alums (an attorney and real estate developer in Miami) called her. Obscene doesn't cover it.

Mike Leach to da U seem so...right, IMHO.

After Florida's collapse this season and shellacking by FSU today, a good hire by Miami right now could really make the power struggle in Florida interesting for the next five years.
