The ref put his hand down to help him up. That's not an aggressive move by the ref.
The ref was freaking standing over him. There is no way Smell could get up and not come in contact with him.
One of the worst calls I have ever seen, and one that directly impacted the result of the game. I don't even have a dog in the hunt, and it fired me up. Just terrible.

Clearly a fumble and MSU recovery.
This means the call on the field will be confirmed.

Ref obviously had money on the game.
Well then he didn't do near enough...Kentucky more than covered.

1. The ref did reach out and touch Snell on Snell's left shoulder with his right hand, his left hand is reaching for Snell's left shoulder when Snell reacts.
2. The referee is clearly near standing over Snell, giving Snell almost zero room to stand up.
3. The ref is not reaching for the football.
The referee is at fault and compounded his mistake it by making the call.
How does anyone who watches the replays not get this?

Look where the ref's feet were. There is one video that shows that he was over top of Snell. No way for Snell to get up without moving the obstacle aside.

The part most of you defending the ref are missing: refs are already calling a horrible game with bad calls and and bad no-calls. There was a bad no-call on that very play when Snell is stopped but continued to be hit, pushed back, etc by Northwestern players until he goes to the ground even though the whistle has already blown and play should have been stopped. When it wasn’t, at the very least, said official should have been chewing some players asses out for stopping at the whistle. An unnecessary roughness flag would not have been as bad a call as the one he made.
The smart, adult thing to do would have been to give Snell a warning to either chill or he’s out. Instead, ref acts like a snowflake and melts, affecting the outcome of the game. What Bennie Snell did was against the rules and wrong. But it didn’t take place in a vacuum. The refs had already lost the respect and control of both teams and what occurred was a heat of the battle reaction to piss poor officiating for both teams. And all they did with the ejection was elevate the level of fail.
