If au is undefeated come IB time it will be a great game.
Maybe he meant in conference play.

That gap is in coaching, not talent.

Its really this, for example Bama has gotten hit with the injury bug on the defensive front and has been able to handle it very well cause of that depth where most other teams would be in trouble.
However, while typically superior, Bama isn't otherworldly compared with other elite level teams when you consider just the 11 on the field at a given time. At least in my opinion.

I think the biggest edge for the tide is Alabama depth and coaching staff. It shows when the iron bowl is in Tuscaloosa, Auburn has no chance. When the game is in Auburn, the war Eagles usually play a helluva game.

Auburn has pulled some of the most talented classes they've ever had in the last several years. They consistently sign top 10 ranked classes, but for some reason or another they haven't consistently fielded top 10 ranked teams at the end of the season.

I'd argue they're slightly more talented, man for man, but in terms of starters and our QB situation compared to theirs we're every bit their equal if Gus stays away from the play calling. Stidham gives us the chance to stay truly balanced and not let Bama key in on run or pass, only. Auburn will be able to take away Hurts and still bracket coverage to Ridley, making him stay in the pocket and beat us with his arm. We'll give him almost all day back there (see Shea Patterson), but we will not let him escape the pocket and will force him to make throws.

The edge has been 2-fold. Gus has completely lost it as a play-caller. So, if Chip Lindsey can continue to call great games that negates that problem.
The other issue has been QB. The past 2 iron bowls we've trotted out an injured Sean White and Jeremy friggin Johnson. We had no prayer to beat them with that.
When we have a good QB, we typically will put up points on Bama's D. The question is, do you (as fans) believe that Stidham is a good QB. If so, Auburn should put up some points.

Only about an inch and a half on a road map.

Offensive play-calling is just one part of coaching. Bama has won 7 of 9 in the series, including 3 of 4 at J-H. The 2 AU wins were with probably 2 of the best 5 or 6 teams in AU history, ranked number 2 and 4, they either won NC or were runner-up; even so, AU needed multiple breaks and strange plays to win them both, though IMO, AU deserved both. The best team almost always wins this game. IMO, Bama has the best team in talent and coaching. AU is a great home field, but Bama is a fabulous road team. Bama is 34-4 in SEC road games since 2008; aside from 2010 32-2. But AU has a reasonable chance to win, but IMO Bama's chance looks to be better.
