Are you going to do something similar with LSU sports?

It depends on how far this goes. I'm on the fence right now. Admittedly, that will be much more difficult for me than other things given how big a part of my life LSU sports has been for my 35 years on this earth

possibly, yes, but I do have a feeling things will calm down after the election. I like to tell myself most of this unrest has been created by politicians jockeying for position in November.

Wouldn't you agree that certain issues are of such moral significance that failing to take a stand out of fear of alienating people would actually be immoral?

Possibly, but I don't think that's happening here

Unless it's a non-partisan issue like Hurricane relief, for instance to use LSU as an example, then yes, I think Universities should remain neutral as much as possible. You need to also consider that there are tens of thousands of students at these Universities that have opinions and none of them should feel like expressing those opinions would result in a lower grade or being unfairly judged by members of the university. It's been about 15 years since I was in school, but I know even then I had to watch what I wrote in certain courses because I didn't want an unpopular argument to affect my grades. I played along because what choice did I have, but that never sat well with me. And many of these were upper level poly sci and english courses where writing persuasive papers on divisive issues was part of the courses. There is a lot wrong with the makeup of University faculties and their behaviors in the present day but that's a completely different discussion I don't care to dive into that right now.

Everyone should try this. Just for a day.

Place a Biden shirt/cap on and walk around doing your normal daily routine.

Then

Place Trump shirt/cap on and walk around doing your normal daily routine.

Tell me the differences in your interactions. You also have to take into consideration that in the Southeast it is probably around 70% conservative. If the results of interactions are different in a negative way then culturally we have a serious problem.

SEC football is all I have left. No more NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS. I will cheer on my Tigahs because there are some great young men in the program. Also, I watch all the other SEC teams and this year will have a crazy result. It will be exciting to see the Pirate and Kiffin do their thing. TBH...I am a John Rhys Plumlee fan. And I will enjoy Alabama being under pressure to succeed.....this is a crossroads year for Nick Saban.

I read your post, and then re-read it completely again to see if there was one area of contention or reasonable debate I could chime in with... it turns out, no... I can't disagree with one word.

I even like the nonchalant delivery of the sentiment. It's matter of fact, and right on the mark.

Shame Bama didn't win the last real national title, but at least it wasn't Auburn.

It’s football. I love football.

I’m not going to let politics ruin things I enjoy. Besides, this is simply the times. Most of these guys probably don’t give a shite about any of this but figure if they go along with it for a short time it will eventually fade away. Which it will.

It's America, everyone should give a shite. No America, no college football, and that's what we're looking at here. A new America reborn, or the permanent death of old America. There's no going back. This isn't just "politics". This country is at war with itself, and America is fighting for survival.

And it will happen faster than a Millenial's second marriage.

There ain't no football in a communist USA.

Sports are entertainment.

I’m not entertained when politics are interjected needlessly into something that should be a break from the normal grind.

A player is welcome to do or say on their own time. But just like any other entertainer, if their actions alienate the fans, the fans have no obligation to buy their album, watch their movie or in this case spend money to attend their game.

A public university on the other hand should never, ever take a political stand like what LSU did by endorsing BLM and Bama flirted with by releasing a video.

Those institutions should be 100% neutral. Ensure the civil rights of all students by all means, but endorsing a grossly political and violent organization should ever, ever happen.
