Finding a way to win is an attribute of a good head coach. Les is a good head coach, or was at least. Coaches usually get worse as they age generally, could be all it is with Les. But you are crazy if you don't think Les is at least a GOOD head coach.

Sabans players have 6 National Championships.

You seem like you might be a bit of an idiot yourself. You're posting a website where the vast majority of posters are LSU fans and you're surprised they would defend the team's coach?
They aren't defending the head coach now, are they? In fact, they want him dead.
I'm just trying to figure out the hateful, irrational, uneducated, uninformed and ignorant nature of the LSU football fan. They say it takes one to know one but it took those idiots ten years to realize that their coach is an idiot. The only thing I am surprised about is how long it took for LSU fans to realize that Miles was stealing from them.
But, yeah, bro. Ain't no LSU folks defending the HC now.
So, if you or any other LSU fan wants to see an idiot, don't look at me. Look in the mirror OR look at Miles.
Finally, don't be angry with me! I'm not the one whose been stealing 4.5 million from LSU every year while pretending to coach football.
Thanks for insulting me so that I could unload on you with my honest opinion about you and your pals.

If Les won 2007 with Saban's players, why didn't Saban win a championship with Saban's players during his last year in Baton Roughe? He didn't even win the bowl game.

Miles used to seem good is because he had strong DC and OC subordinates in that year.
Why didn't Saban win another Natty for LSU back in 2004 or even the bowl game? Probably because he didn't feel like it. He knew he was getting the hell out of Dodge and would only be back to steal a recruit or as the opposing coach playing the Tigers.

Well Les did back into the Natty with two losses. Lots of luck involved. Look at Chiz he won a Natty and fired. Sometimes talent and luck go along way despite a coach that isn't really a great coach.

You give us your opinion since you are a well documented Miles hater.
Let's hear from a Saban abandonment syndrome survivor.

Pretty much any fan base would have been satisfied with Les up until 2013, which is when he stopped consistently contending in the West. Maybe not Bama but historically they are in another tier so their expectations are skewed. But even then the fan base has flip flopped on him a ton. There also has always been the very vocal negatiger faction (turns out ther were right all along).
I'm just saying that this kind of rationale would happen with pretty much any other fan base, except places like Bama. It would be like me going to Hogville and calling Bert a fat frick who doesn't recruit well enough to ever win the SEC, and then being surprised when a bunch of homer hog fans tell me to go suck a dick.
The funny thing now is watching people trying to shift the narrative that LSU fans are stupid for blindly supporting Miles for too long, when for years it was the opposite, that we were flip flopping pieces of shite who couldn't appreciate him.

Hell, he was the luckiest SOB to win it. 2 losses and every team in front of them lost.

It took a pretty interesting stroke of luck for Saban to win his LSU natty.

2008 was the beginning of his downfall.

quote:I mean.. Isn't this the summary of his entire career at LSU? I understand that he's great at developing relationships with the players who play hard for him, and he's undoubtedly an excellent recruiter. Maybe he's the one scouting/picking all that defensive talent, and if so then he deserves more credit than I give him. To me it just seemed like LSU had great defensive talent led by a great DC.
Miles used to seem good is because he had strong DC
Miles has an offensive background, and for the most part has led teams with uninspiring, lackluster, and at times plain shite offenses. Plus he talks like something may be wrong with him and makes ridiculous in-game decisions that sometimes pay off, and sometimes don't. But when you consider the context of most of those situations, its hard to feel he made an intelligent, calculated decision and should be credited as bold rather than saying "what in the frick?" as you roll your eyes at his dumb luck.
Considering that there have been multiple OC's and QB's during his regime, this would seemingly indicate a systemic problem rooted around the HC's offensive philosophy. It's not hard to figure out who was the weak link here. LSU wins in spite of Miles, rather than because of him. He's been carried for a very long time. I don't really mean that disrespectfully, but to me it's fairly clear.

2008 was the beginning of his downfall.
It's a lot more complicated than that.
Les has never had full support in the LSU family. When things have gone bad, those that don't support him come out of the woodwork.
This goes all the way back to the 05 Tennessee game, where LSU blew a 21-0 lead on a hot, hot, Monday night. It was his Tiger Stadium debut. It was the first major sporting event in Louisiana after Katrina, and had to be delayed because of Hurricane Rita. The first half was great, but the team ran out of steam. Now, any time a momentum shift happens like that, there are plenty of video clips of the losing coach looks like an idiot (reference some clips of Hugh Freeze last night in Orlando.) Some LSU fans refer to him apparently trying to call time out immediately after LSU made an interception late in the game as their proof that he was an idiot.
But remember, Saban was still highly regarded in Baton Rouge at that point. Les was the proverbial coach following a legend. How many times has that turned out as well as Les at LSU? Not many.
The rest of 2005 (winning the next 9 games with no break) and winning an NMC in 2007 quieted his critics. People even understood 2008, considering that a lot of the problem that year could be directly linked to him kicking Ryan Perrilloux off the team.
A slow, somewhat bumpy, rise led to 2011. The 2011 regular season was the most fun any LSU fan had ever had. It was the most successful regular season any team has ever had, according to a lot of pundits. The had run the table on the most difficult schedule in the nation, and only one game was close.
The Mulligan pissed LSU fans off. Losing the Mulligan was tough. Losing the Mulligan looking like they shouldn't have been there made all the 2005 disbelievers come out of the wood work.
His best opportunity since then was 2012, when Alabama took advantage of another last minute collapse. The fan base has been divided since then, and Les has done little to help his defenders.
He has won plenty of games he shouldn't have. But, even that is drying up. And that means the defenders are running out of patience.
