I realize most of you don’t pay close attention to teams other than your own. I try to be as objective as possible looking at LSU and when I do that I see a team that is over ranked at #5 and isn’t ready to be a serious title contender.

Reason being is there’s not enough difference makers on either side of the ball, defensively especially. There are a lot of really good football players on the team don’t get me wrong, but there’s basically just 6 or 7 that REALLY flash: 2 on the OL, a freshman running back, Malik, Perkins, and Maason Smith. Of those only 3 have extensive experience in SEC play.

The pluses are the OL and DL are the strength of team and I still believe that’s where you win and lose games. Also the coaching staff’s organization and attention to detail is outstanding.l and will carry us through in tough situations. But then you look at a guy like Omar Speights, who is a very good football player, but he’s not going to be a first round draft pick next year. He’s more like a better version of Micah Baskerville than he is Devin White. There’s a lot of those type players on this team. You can win a lot of games with players like that but in terms of winning a title you’ll be exposed by the really elite level talent teams.

Overall I think visually it will look a lot better, what they’ve done to shore up this program in 18 months is really impressive. They may end up being a better team than last year but it might not show up on the final record. Probably will lose to Bama, FSU is a true coinflip, and they will probably drop another game against a creative offense that can exploit the secondary. 9.5 o/u win total is right on imo. If absolutely everything goes right they can maybe get to 11-1 but would lose in the SECCG or in the semi final if they didn’t win the west at 11-1 . If absolutely everything goes wrong I could see 8-4 but the coaching it too good to be much worse than that imo.

Who would you rank ahead of them in the top 5?

I would probably have them at 8 or 9, they can be a top 10 team this year I’m not down on them.

They would need to catch a couple of breaks and stay injury free to be in the playoff conversation.

Omar Speights was all Pac 12 first team for a shitty team in a shitty conference.

Everything from multiple respectable journalist are saying he will play his way into a pay day.

I'm here for it because you certainly have written him off.

I absolutely have not. I think he’ll be really good for us but if he were an elite level talent he would be in the NFL right now.

If the light goes on for Denver that could be a game changer. A true shutdown corner on one side rotating Zy and Deuce on the other would be big for the defense.

It's hard to say man, so many things factor into a whole season. Only time will tell. I do think that they have enough talent to win it all though.

Would need a few guys who have not shown it to this point to really step up. Like if Kaleb comes in and lights up the world as a freshman then yeah that changes the equation. I don’t think you can count on that though.

The players you hear most about having great camps are the ones who are more limited physically. Not bad football players but if you’re relying on Stamps and Lacy to be PP7 and Jets it’s probably not going to happen.

So what 7 or 8 teams go ahead of them?

I tend to agree with a lot of what you are saying. I mean you are not factually wrong but no one expected them to do as well as they did last season.

Probably will lose to Bama,

This is where you lose me, why do you say this?

Bama doesn't have a better QB situation.
LSU is clearly better at WR.
LSU is better on the OL.
I think LSU is better on the DL but I will rate as a push for this discussion.
I think LSU has a better coaching staff. Yeah I know Saban is Saban but the coordinators at not crazy good. Steele a good coach but that is it nothing special. Who knows what Tommy Rees will be.

Bama may beat LSU but to sit here in August and say Bama probably beats LSU I can't see. I think you have been beaten down by Bama so many times you have battered wife syndrome.

You can make arguments for a number of teams. I think LSU would have a good chance to beat USC but with their QB and schedule I would bet on them over LSU today in terms of who will have the better season

Florida State like I said is a true coin flip but they play a much weaker conference so would bet on them over LSU as well.

I’m down on Clemson and not sure what to make of Penn State so I guess 7 is where I would put them

With Bama I’m more basing it on them being at home and their last 2 recruiting classes.

I agree Saban is winding down and don’t think they’ll win the title either but they aren’t going to lose 5 games either.

There is a real chance LSU ends the season unranked. This is why.

LSU leading rusher last year was the Qb. Not a good sign to be fair. OL was an issue last year for LSU as well.

Seems like a let down year for yall. 8 win season if I had to guess

Much more likely Texas ends up unranked than LSU. Main reason being your head coach.

The rb that ran over half your defense last year is our 3rd string back right now
