We could actually claim 3 more.1908, 1936, and 1962.

Do you know what an Ace pitcher means?

If we claimed computer algorithmic polls like 4 of Tennessee’s claims, LSU could also claim 2011 as LSU finished #1 in two computer polls.
That said, I’m fine just claiming the 4 we do. I think it’s stupid teams adding “championships” to their totals decades after the fact, many times in polls that literally didn’t exist when the seasons were played.

You mean the National Player of the week?

You should've used Heismans in football too. That REALLY gets Vols going.

Absolutely. But we have 2 of them. So it is possible for a team to have two pitchers with Ace stuff.

Tennessee owns the series lead in football, men's basketball, and women's basketball over LSU. LSU does, however, have the series lead in baseball, despite losing the last 6 in a row. So congrats on being better than us at 1 thing historically even if you haven't been recently.

I definitely like your post. Really makes clear what's happening here. Both teams are really good. It's a long season.

The harsh reality.... most posters will be dead before tn catches LSU in football and baseball championships.

Baseball yes, you have more titles and own the series lead in wins. But football is entirely different.
Vols Football- 6 Nattys
LSU football- 4 Nattys
Vols Football - 13 SEC titles
LSU Football - 12 SEC Titles
Vols lead series 21-10. Last meeting 40-13. One thing I am certain of, is that LSU will not even the series in my life time or yours.

You sure about the football title count? Sure, Tennessee can lay claim to 1938, 1950, 1967; but outside of Knoxville, those national titles belong elsewhere.
1950 belongs to Oklahoma, despite losing Bowl to Kentucky. Before you say anything, Tennessee also won the title in 1951 before losing bowl game.
1938 Tennessee has a legit case. But the AP can only choose one, and it was Texas Christian.
1967 belongs to USC. Had Tennessee defeated Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, Vols might have had a case for a split. Tennessee lost to UCLA that year. USC beat UCLA.
All four of LSU’s national titles can’t be argued. You can debate 2007 all you want like most do on here. But they won it on the field by being selected to be there.

Let’s take a look at the ones they don’t and have an argument for.
1914- finished season undefeated and conference champs. Led by Zora G. Clevenger, this team was dominant, shutting out four opponents and winning by margins of 89-0, 55-3, 27-0, 66-0 and 67-0. Their only close games were against in-state rivals Vanderbilt and the Sewanee Tigers. But the Vols still won both games.
1st-N-Goal has retroactively awarded this team a national championship, but it’s not recognized.
1939- UT should have been the out right champion. Shut out every regular season team. Yet finished the season #2. Win it in 1938 and 1940 but the team that shutout every team in regular season in 1939 finishes #2.
1989- finished season 11-1. Miami finished the season 11-1 also. But Miami finish’s #1 while the Vols finish #5. That team was just as good as anyone in the top 5. Miami losses to FSU while UT losses to Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That’s the same week UT lost it’s starting QB for a failed drug test and had to make switch mid week.
1985- But let’s consider this season for a minute. The Vols ended it by thrashing the Miami Hurricanes 35-7 in the Sugar Bowl. That was on a neutral field, and at the time, Miami was in play for a national championship. The team that won it that year, the Oklahoma Sooners, lost two Miami by two touchdowns at home that year. But yet both Miami and Oklahoma finish ahead the Vols while the Vols finished #4.
1927- So this year, there were four national champions in college football. All of them had either a loss or a tie as their only blemish. One of them was from the Southern Conference. But a team from the Southern Conference with a tie as their only blemish doesn’t get to get in on the action? So the 4 teams that shared it all lost 1 game. But the Vols did not and yet they get left out. Makes no sense at all.
1956- finished the regular season 10-0. These Vols held their opponents to one touchdown or less in eight of their 10 match-ups. They were dominant, shutting out three opponents. And Majors was an unstoppable player with the ball in his hands. Oklahoma is crowned champs this year.
Even the 3 you bring up, there can be a legit argument about the ones we don’t claim.
