I was thinking 2.5 loses as the over/under. Is this depth chart accurate? LSU Depth Chart 2021

it was a serious question. Weird how that is. Anyways he should be pretty good. Our Pass Coverage is gonna be nasty next season.

Thanks good info. What does Clemson starting lb lineup look like now?

I'm pretty sure Skalski and Simpson will be starters. I'm not sure about the other one. I expect a lot of upperclassmen on our defense will lose their starting roles to our younger but more athletic freshman.

Tackling Efficiency

The PFF "Tackling Efficiency" number shows the number of attempted tackles per miss.

Run Defense Tackling Efficiency
#193 out of 193 - Mike Jones, Clemson

Pass Defense Tackling Efficiency
#192 out of 193 - Mike Jones, Clemson

Overall Tackling Efficiency
#192 out of 193 - Mike Jones, Clemson

I assume he'll be a situational player in the nickel. Maybe a hybrid type that takes Stevens role? Big enough to still play the run but good enough in coverage to cover athletic tight ends and slot guys.

Isn’t Trenton Simpson the next great star there? So I mean can’t fault em for leaving. Apparently he doesn’t wanna split time. And wants to be the full on starter. At LSU he will be.

Yep, I think Mike would have lost the starting position to Simpson.

Looks pretty good to me. I don’t think they have added the new incoming recruits yet. Some of them might start out of the gate. Like Sage Ryan, Maason Smith, and Davis.

Per PFF he had 16 tackles and he missed 13 tackles. That's.........yikes.

Sounds like this addition won't help those issues.

Oof.

Again, Mike was a solid player. He isn't going to do something stupid and lose you the game, but he isn't going to make an amazing play to win you one either.

You're going to be disappointed if you think the addition of Mike Jones to your roster will transform your defense into NC caliber.

u were stacked last year. Had a huge LSU fan tell me yall had a QB just as good as Burrow and the all world TE could not be stopped. Said he expected no drop off from the 19 team

All this optimism reminds me of how excited LSU fans were when Jabril Cox signed with them last year. He really made quite the difference on their defense!

Former Clemson LB. Graded as 4th best LB in power 5 by PFF. LSU now has him and the number 1 Juco LB coming in.

If he's that good then why is he leaving then?

Jabril Cox was good and will probably go early mid 2nd round.

This guy seems similar to Cox - maybe a bit worse in the run game, which is probably why he wasn't/isn't quite as highly regarded as Cox was.

J. Cox 2020 PFF Grades (out of 192)
Run Defense - #136
Tackling - #115
Pass Rush - #19
Pass Coverage - #3

M. Jones 2020 PFF Grades (out of 192)

Pass Rush - #60
Pass Coverage - #1

It was weird flex to begin with especially SOG filling in OP with a more thorough evaluation from same site, well it's Wednesday afternoon... I guess. You put this in the intellectually dishonest thread pile.

Could you imagine being a head coach and having to deal with this level of delusion every year?

Why do you do this to yourselves?

Maybe. Sage might be in the Nickel a little.
Derick Davis Jr could be in the mix as well. Rated as the 3rd best safety in the class behind Sage I believe.

Overall the defense looks good on paper. D line is expirenced and return Anthony who was top 5 in sacks. And have BJ Ojulari who has potential like his older brother. With a 5 star DT coming in. With Stingley and Ricks in the secondary.
