A circulating claim holds that Governor Jeff Landry(A University of Louisiana graduate) is pursuing a coordinated effort to displace Louisiana State University as the state’s Southeastern Conference member and substitute the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in its place. Under this account, the governor would leverage the state’s newly announced industrial partnerships with Meta, Amazon and SpaceX to finance a stadium of conference scale in Lafayette and to underwrite a name, image, and likeness program competitive with existing SEC programs.
