I graduated in Chemical Engineering from LSU in 1978. Worked in chemical plants (Chlorine, EDC, VCM and PVC) for 45 years. Had jobs in Engr. Dept., area Engr., superintendent, plant manager prior to going into the licensing field as Sales/Design Team Manager then Director/General Manager. Responsible for licensing/basic engineering design/training and startup assistance to our clients. Plants licensed and built were all over the world. Here's my take on Universities and countries that produce good Chemical Engineers and those that don't.
The Good Ones that I have had experience with:
- University of Alabama
- Auburn University
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- Mississippi State
- Louisiana Tech
What the above had was good critical thinking skills, people skills and common sense.
- MIT extremely smart in theoretical issues. Very valuable to the team in their proper role.
- Japanese ChE's very, very good but extremely tight liped with not so good people skills.
- Korean ChE's same as above but a bit more easy to get full cooperation.
- Italians Smart, creative but lack drive. They have their place.
The throw aways:
- Tulane Never make the mistake of hiring.
- University of Texas They are great, just ask them. Their ego gets in the way of discovering that they don't have the goods to be a good engineer or a leader.
- India Teach them what to do then tell them what to do then finally they will be happy for you to do it for them. Serious lack of common sense and leadership.
- Saudis They pay expats to do everything and then take credit for it. Pay from them is extremely good.
- University of Michigan Not good with people and they want to be the boss without experience and don't like to get their hands dirty.
- Any school in California stay away from.
That's my take from experience, however in the past 10-15 years none of them no matter the school are worth a plugged nickel. They are "entitled" and being taught by too many foreign professors with no industrial knowledge or experience.

Well being that the modern world is full of back stabbing weasels, kids who are financially depend on their parents until the age of 40 or longer, under educated emotional cripples who can't master high school math going into college, college graduates who are chronic underachievers, university presidents who are for the most part Marxist/Socialist Myrmidons who blindly follow incoherent conference presidents and run what would be a top college conference like it's a good ole boy country club and have substandard facilities in both the academic and athletic areas. Yes I believe we deserve better. Of the 10 original founding members LSU has produced more NCAA championships that ever single on of the by far at 48. Who the Hell wants to be considered in this "sick" modern world.

I remember the day that Leonard Fournette personally "boat raced" Auburn and turned the Auburn defense especially Jonathan Ford into a worn out bitch. What an embarrassment that was. Hell, it was the highlight reel of the decade and still being watched.

As long as it does not give the NCAA and particularly the SEC protection from Anti-Trust Laws. That would be a major problem.

What was fun to watch was on June 18, 2025 when a ball hit to left field hit your left fielder on his body rather than his glove preceded by your SS making one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. That was so indicative of what defines Arkansas. You have won 1 football game against LSU in the past 10 meetings and are behind 70-21 in baseball. Maybe Arkansas should think about stepping down to Babe Ruth Baseball and a less physical form of football because you sure are not competitive in the NCAA.
