In the end, it is just one game. It won't be a tipping point for either program win or lose.
It certainly could for Ole Miss. The LSU fan base is 100% behind Kiffin. The Ole Miss fan base is not completely sold on Pete. If he loses to LSU then drops a few more and then next year has to replace Chambliss and Lacy. He will be staring back to back rough seasons in the fact and be on the hot seat. Lane Kiffin didn't come to LSU for 2026. We know we don't likely don't have a good enough team to win it all this year. We want a playoff birth and maybe make a run. This is Ole Miss's year. Things aren't getting better after this year they are getting worse.

I think Pete is and has been a stop gap hire either way for Ole Miss. No one thinks he is honestly a better HC at this point in his career, and likely not ever.
Ole Miss can absorb the loss and this season and the next. They have proven a willingness to invest. With the right hire and continued financial investment, they will be fine.
And, who knows. Maybe old Petey boy pulls a Dabo and has some long term success for a first job.
But, the program isn't in the balance over him winning or losing at the moment.

I have the opposite opinion. It’s really just about bragging rights at this point. First real test for both schools and as you pointed out, it’s early. Both teams can overcome a loss tomorrow, pretty easily.

You are thinking like a logical person. I live in Mississippi now. I'm around Ole Miss fans all day every day. They honestly believe Pete is the reason for the success they had last year. They just gloss over how bad his defense was and how much the offense carried that team.
