Once upon a time, he could have been a cornerstone for an NFL franchise, someone to build a ferocious defense around. Mean Joe Greene, Hacksaw Reynolds, Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, etc. A guy that knocks the shite out of opponents, sets the tone, and leads to multiple playoff appearances in the NFL.

That style has not only been de-emphasized, it's been ostracized and legislated out of existence. Devin White was such a player, been fined and suspended multiple times.
The NFL has been changed to flash and style, high scores, and minimal impact from the defenders. You can't really even flail your arms to disrupt a passing lane, because if you strike the QB with a slap on the helmet or neck, you're in BIG trouble, and a lightning rod for "all that's wrong" in the sport.

The league would rather have a slick QB slinging the ball around, and WRs making acrobatic, ballet-style catches and runs.

Turner can't thrive in this style. He's not a technician, he's a brute. They don't want brutes anymore.
