Bama and LSU run different defensive schemes. Both aggressive, but Chavis loves to go zone on certain downs which can be seen as "bend but not break."
It is this defense that the term 3rd and Chavis was born in UT.
So while both are excellent defenses, LSU's numbers will take a hit in the long run. Both Defenses have excellent DB coaching, but where Bama has the edge is in the middle at LB. though Chavis prefers a small faster LB, LSU doesnt have that Dominant Mike we would need to control the middle as Shepard did last year. Instead we have a former S splitting time with a MLB for the Mike position. Thus the DL for LSU will have to get plenty of Pressure, possibly more than last year, or the Offenses will eat us alive.
For Bama what many think is their greatest strength could become an Achilles heel. Though their secondary has stars, for the most part they have shown very little other than a handful of INT. Blown coverages against the better WR's and QB's of the league isn't something to feel upset about, but it deserves mention nonetheless. Can those DB's get rid of the scrutiny and blown coverages that plagued them throughout the year?
Unless both young, but talented DLines get to the QB, both secondaries could become an afterthought. This leaves Bama an edge with their LB core.
That LB group is the only part of Bama's defense that puts them over the top.
The DLines are both young and very talented. There isn't a point in arguing which secondary is better. Both have veteran Safties ranked number one in their classes. Both have a CB with 6'3 ceiling, both have a CB that is deemed a 1st round pick.
Now LSU loses possibly their best CB if all time, yet returns a solid nucleus of DB's with loads of experience on the field, but must adapt now to starting roles. Though the loss of Shepard in the Middle could prove more costly than anyone realizes.
This is all IMO, and frick I bit
yep, what he said.............

Well prepare to be amazed this year. Jefferson was MVP of our spring, you know?
Looking forward to the same improvements we heard about going into last year.

That's why I put zero talk into the improvement schtick until I see it on the field. John Brantley was a Heisman candidate going into last year. Bull fricking shite, he was terrible. Granted the bull shite UF ran last year that our coaching staff called an offense.
I keep hearing about all these improvements each year, but these guys gotta SHOW OUT first. Just like I've heard about Brantley showing phenomenal improvement this Spring and Summer. Show me John, before I buy any of the talk. This "talk" will burn many fans, but many times, it amounts to jack.

Damnit I misspelled Sheppard's name twice.

LSU Run Game & Bama Run Game--TIE The answer is No
I agree, I have no idea how we can compete. This is the best, most complete Bama team in recent memory..wait that was last year. What the hell did I watch last year in TS? Seriously, we'll see what happens, our schedule is a mine field and I'll wait and see with JJ. Our talent is very good but it is young and step up time is here.

Are you the same guy that tried the lame arse approach earlier in the thread or did you just really like his style?

I'm sorry, I posted once in this thread. I was sort of making a fricking joke. I consider LSU's talent on par with Bama's, I am not ready to admit that somehow Bama has the advantage in every phase of the game over our bunch. I have no idea who the hell you are talking about in reference to a lame arse approach. I was under the impression this was a board where guys get to come and bullshite with each other, I did not realize I needed a "style".

I went federal in 08, so none. I used to work the Sixth District so it was always good to find a white boy in the bricks...like a Chritmas present. I'm just kidding, of course, that place was a sinking ship (See Warren Riley and Ronal Serpas).

LSU's D-line and bama's D-line are a TIE(IMO)
quote:No, they have an enormous edge, this is where Bama prides itself though. Well LB's and RB's.
Bama has the big edge on LBers
quote:No, Alabama has a sizable margin here also.
LSU has the edge on DB's
Where LSU has Bama beat by a ton is WR's. Russell Shepard is a threat at anytime when he touches a ball and Rueben Randle has Bama's number. If LSU is going to beat Bama it will take a solid run game but ultimately JJ or JLee throwing for around 250 yards. Which is not far fetched. Either way, both have great squads and should be an extremely fun game to watch.

I really like our secondary but it will depend on some young talent producing. I do worry about the ability of our QB's to consistently get the ball to our receivers. I guess we'll find out soon, I never envisioned last year's Bama team losing three, it should be fun to watch.
