Yes, you did. Bama switched from being a proponent of the 3/6 model to the 1/7 model when they saw who their three would be.

No, they're not signing up for that. Who else would draw 3 of the big 6? AU has been a tangential rivalry since the 80s. Utk is A TRUE rival. Lsu (who I love and respect) is a Johnny come lately. There is more heritage with Vandy or MSU.

I understand why Bama is unhappy with that prospect, but it is a fact that Saban went from a 9 game proponent to an 8 game proponent when he saw who Bama was going to get as their 3.

Frankly, I think that worrying about balancing out the permanent opponents should not be that big of a concern. If you end up with 3 tough permanent opponents, that’s going to mean that your rotating opponents are weaker than average. Since you play with the entire league in a 2 year span, it’s just not that big of a deal.

Regardless, even if it means giving in to Saban’s hissy fit, I’d like to see them jettison the formula and see if they can somehow negotiate a slate everyone can live with so that we don’t get stuck with the 8 game schedule, and end up losing all those rivalry games.

People are making too big of a deal about this. It’s going to be 2 on/2 off for the nonfixed opponents. I’d take this any day of the week over watching LSU/Arkansas every year.

So the only way to protect the traditions and rivalries is to play the games as a non-conference game anyways.

Or your bitch arse athletic director could vote yes on a 9 game schedule like the other 5.

on the surface, I’m not sure anyone likes the 1-7 model, but maybe it will be a good thing for the conference

that gives us time to see how the playoff is going to shake out, and it gives us time to figure out what future expansion (if any) looks like

at the end of the day, Georgia may not want to play Auburn every year (as an example) but if it’s important to both teams, it will still be played

If it were up to me, we would go to the 10 game model

SEC West (5 Teams)
SEC East (5 Teams)

Rotation A Texas, Arkansas, A&M
Rotation B Oklahoma, Missouri, SC

West plays self (4)
West plays A or B (3)
West plays Perm East (1)
West plays Rotation East (2)

East plays the same format, but B or A

Rotation A plays East/West (5)
Rotation A plays self (2)
Rotation A plays B (3)

B plays same format but West/East

Example LSU Schedule
Alabama
Auburn
Ole Miss
Miss State
Texas or Oklahoma
Arkansas or Missouri
A&M or S Carolina
Florida (perm)
Tennessee or Georgia
Kentucky or Vanderbilt

It’s hard as shite, but damn that’s a lot of good games to watch. Play everyone 2x every 4 years.

But it isn’t my call. Sorry.

ps As i’m writing this, the Gaza feed is freaking BOOMING for anyone interested.. link is on the pinned post of the Politics board

3 plus 6 works best for Texas and money. Play OU, aggie, and Arkansas every year. If Bama wants to play Kent State twice let them but the conference should pay extra revenue to schools that play games people watch. Ultimately conferences wont matter anyway if some teams play 4 or 5 crummy games out of ten and others play 7 or 8. TV and cable will just pay per view for the games everyone will watch every year because. I have rarely watched a Power School v cup cake game, except Aggie v APP State.

If true, then, we will probably get to see LSU bs Aggie every year

You can't establish rivalries playing each other every couple years, the drama which is what drove the SEC so far ahead the past two decades.

There's been countless 5 year hatred spats between random SEC teams because of one play, one player or one coach.

Notice how nobody cares if State is part of their schedule or not.

Yeah, TSIO is dead.

Saban is such a pussy. He loses once to Tennessee, sees the writing on the wall, and agitates to end the series with the Vols.

it could be done..

you would play everyone 5x in 12 years instead of 6x in 12 years (not that big of difference imo)

The 3-5 format with a P5 non conf opp requirement would be interesting.

The GTnerd is asking us to drop Their rivalry for Auburn. LoL. I’m fine with it, we beat both of them every year. I don’t blame the guy
