He doesn't want to be there and there are only a handful of Auburn fans who still want him there.

What he is doing is the definition of quiet quitting.

I agree with everything that you said, plus coaching changes hurt more now thanks to the transfer portal. Once they pull the trigger, you are going to have a lot of players jump in the portal. That next guy has to be ready to come in immediately and convince players not to leave.

It is amazing how thoroughly Saban's run at Gump-U has destroyed the Auburn football program.

We had a couple of our best seasons in history during Saban's run. Kirby's rise has been a much bigger obstacle IMO

Depends on how they actually feel about him.

But I do expect some transfers. Hopefully next coach nets more from the portal than Harsin did.

To be honest, it scares the shite out of me for any upcoming coaching changes.

There really needs to be a window when a player is allowed to enter the portal. Like, say Feb - May. That would give new coaches the ability to salvage existing players.

You are right. Scares me as well. I'm certain that a lot of impulsive decisions are made in regard to the portal.

That's a good idea. If you are on a scholarship you should still have to honor that for the season.

Apparently they do have windows but one of those is within 30 days of a coaching change.

Nebraska just had a good WR leave for this reason. The article also explains the windows. I was unaware of these.

That's what happened to Tennessee with Dooley.

Everyone knew he was getting fired, he knew he was getting fired, his staff knew he was getting fired, and they basically didn't do shite the entire season.

It's one of the few things I know for a fact directly from someone in the Tennessee AD, although it doesn't really take inside information to see it. But I think the entire situation is a lot like Auburn, because people in the Tennessee AD knew they made a mistake basically as soon as he took over, and it seems Harsin is much the same.

Yes, but only Ole Miss is stupid enough to fire a guy mid-season and ALLOW HIM TO KEEP COACHING as a lame duck. We lost every single game.

My advice, don't take that option. Appoint your least terrible coordinator.

At people thinking Lane wants to start over at Auburn when he is 3 years ahead of where Auburn is right now. Where is Auburn going to find the buyout money for Harsin the $15 mil to buyout Lane and the 10 mil x 6 it will take for Lane to even listen?

Lol $$ isn’t really the issue for us…

I would be shocked if Sean Payton doesn't end up at Carolina.

Maybe, but the NFL usually only chooses college coaches that have been winning for a while with huge success. Kiffin has only now turned over a new leaf but I'm certain they are watching. I say, give it 3-4 years before he is NFL material again.

I think that, if he leaves, he leaves for a place that will absolutely be in the mix every year. Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, that kind of place. I do think he stays in the SEC, though. I think he likes the action.

Yes, he probably wants to stay in the SEC. AU is the only big job available (soon). Other comparable SEC jobs might not be available for a while. It really depends on his career plans and aspirations. Of course, he could wait another 1-2 years but can he wait 5+ years for another big opportunity in CFB (SEC)?

Y'all realize, don't you that with Auburn and coaching, a "sure fire thing" means a coach that will surely be fired.

One thing that Kiffin learned from Saban at Alabama is to have total control of the program. He wouldn't have that at Auburn. Far from it, as we have seen over the past 2 years.

Guys, I'm being serious here. It would truly shock me if he went to Auburn. I just don't see it as a realistic option. He's way ahead at OM than he would be at Auburn and it is the same division. He would have to start over. He has absolute control of the program at Ole Miss. He has the facilities and the support. He has the media. And he has spent time trying to plaster over his old reputation. He seems genuinely happy in Oxford.

Now, he could prove me wrong but I just don't see it happening at all.

For those that compare this to Tuberville leaving Ole Miss. He was happy in Oxford too. He had grand plans for facilities and the program. In the end, our AD was an asshat, wouldn't spend anything on football. I believe that Tuberville gave Boone an ultimatum and Boone decided to trade him for Cutcliffe. That's why Tuberville left in the middle of the night and his wife started talking shite about Ole Miss. They left angry. It had more to do with the relationship among people that are no longer part of the program than anything else.

Kiffin doesn't have that issue with Carter. Carter is all in on Kiffin, allows him to run the program completely, and spends money where needed. For example, we announced a stadium renovation. Kiffin asked him to put that on hold and concentrate on the NIL. That's exactly what happened.

It's a much much different situation than Tuberville.

That already happened last season because none of the guys that are/we're there, were recruited by Harsin and company.

There are very, very few players getting significant playing time with eligibility left who are there because of Harsin.

Why is there not more support for bringing in Freeze? He can flat out coach. He probably does more with less than any coach I have ever seen. He can motivate players to get the max out of them. He can recruit, and with the NIL in place, there won't be as many issues as in the past.

If Kiffin ever left, I would take Freeze back in an instant.

Don't the Saints still hold the the rights to his contract?

Seems I read something that said the Saints had to approve, or release him, to coach somewhere else and they would absolutely not let him go to a division rivals.
