My first post in a LONG time...

I'm not a dickrider by any means so I'm just going to say this...

Money is what makes the world go round. It makes people who seem normal make absolutely batshit decisions that make no sense. That being said, I think if Jeff and Jerry fly to Gruden and bait the idea that he will become the highest paid coach in NCAAF history, he'll bite. He has a great job now don't get me wrong, but he can always go back to ESPN and MNF if the job on the hill turns out to be a bust. The money is the motive. Other than that, Gruden has no interest in Arkansas.

Don't get offended when I say this because I honestly don't mean it as a flame for I am a State grad and live in MS and are in the same shape. But don't you think it would be very presumptuous to think that Arkansas is going to throw down the most money in the nation for a college coach. I mean we have Alabama and Saban and what they pay him is embarrassing compared to the state in which he coaches in. I like to think that everyone else has their priorities somewhat in check.

No offense taken at all and you raise a very valid point.

At this time there is honestly no telling what's going to happen. I'm not sold on any coach or going to speculate on any deal on anybody. I know that the UofA has the money to make an out of the park hire. With boosters like Walton, Jones, Tyson, and others it would make the hire look very lucrative. With the money that the attention BP and our TV contracts brought we were able to pull in more money and refurbish our athletic facilities and make plans to build entirely new facilities. That being said, we may have to tap into that fund and make sacrifices to make a truly fantastic hire. It won't happen overnight and it will take time to recover the finances, but I think Jeff, Jerry, and the rest of the guys can get it done. They just have to make sure it's the right guy for the job.

The good: We make a great hire who will be able to turn our program around and bring the positive side of the national spotlight back on us and the investment will pay for it's self in 4-8 years and we will be able to compete with LSU, Bama, and other power programs.

The bad, We make a mediocre or sub-par hire who flops and sets us back another number of years. I think we would be world of hurt at that point and would bleed out for awhile or be doomed to the cellar of the SEC for up to a decade.

It's a huge gamble, but Jerry and Jeff are smart guys and great businessmen and won't take the risk on just "somebody". This offseason will be very interesting for Arkansas fans.

A lot of people thought Bama was too much of a dumpster fire at the time to land Nick Saban. Add in the fact that he said "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama," and people were having the same reaction when his name came up as one of Bama's candidate. Look what happened.

I don't think Gruden to Arky is likely, but it's not nearly as implausible as most people in here are making it out to be. It's definitely possible.

Though I think it would be a mistake. There are better hires in the college ranks IMO.

Finally, someone gets it. It's not impossible at all.

I agree as well, Gruden would be too much of a gamble IMO.

Apparently Randy Galloway of ESPN Dallas on his show today, confirmed that Arkansas AD Jeff Long had a meeting last night with Jon Gruden.

"He's been a journalist in Dallas for 30+ years, I doubt he'd be making it up".

Solid 8 pages of praising Gruden follows, fun stuff to read check it out.

No wonder everyone thinks we're a bunch of morons. THANKS HOGVILLE

I think it's a long shot, mainly because he's got such a sweet deal going already.

The money we could/would pay him would make Bama's butthole pucker, because like it or not, they would have to pony up for Saban due to his contract as well. But it's not all about the Benjamins with Gruden I wouldn't think. It would have to be largely about a desire to coach again, in the toughest conference in the USA, and build a national champion.

I don't know what his thoughts are, and think it's a long shot to get him - but there has been too much smoke, too many heavy hitters involved for too long - for there not to have been semi serious talks. And as far as I can tell, he hasn't come out and flat out said 'no thanks'.

Well, shite. Are we doing the Gruden thing again? frick. Even if we get him (which we won't), isn't this a lot like driving a $60,000 truck while living in a trailer?

The money could be better spent on something we need.

Geezz...can we just enjoy the epic Hawg Meltdown while it is in full stream (no pun imtended...but gladly accepted)

A situation as laughable, comedic and surreal as the BMFP, JLS, JL Failboat Special does not happen very often........er....if ever!

So let's just celebrate while the celebration is good!! We can discuss the future and continued Hog failure when we get there.

A lot of those Gruden posts are just people trolling and yelling "Gruden!" a bunch. Most of them don't actually think Gruden is coming.

TD getting trolled by Hogville. I thought I'd never see the day...
