When there is a skirmish on the field, should the coaches be involved with players of the opposing team?
Probably not today, but when Bert was playing, it happened all the time. And he's the type of coach who probably does think it's his responsibility to protect ALL players on the field, including those on the opposing team. If/when he ever starts getting into altercations with opposing players, then I'll stop supporting him, but so far there's only been this one delusional accusation accusing him of doing that.

A slang term for play that is of minor league or unprofessional quality. The "bushes" or the "sticks" are small towns where minor league teams may operate. A "busher" refers to someone from the "bush leagues": see subtitle of Ring Lardner's first book, "You Know Me Al: A Busher's Letters".

I'm criticizing what (most of us) see in that clip. I'm not attacking anything outside of that, as you suggest. Not sure what Saban's opinion has to do with anything? I often disagree with the shite he says. Your the one who seems incapable of criticizing anything about your coach.
Oh, I'm often critical of Bielema. That fake punt was fricking stupid! And I have no problem with some of the criticism of him, because it's deserved. It's just that this is petty and ridiculous.
Some of you may believe the video is proof that Bielema's intentions were dishonorable, but you would be wrong. I don't even see how you get that far and doubt you would, either, if you weren't allowing people to put insidious ideas in your head (i.e. Clay Travis, Kevin Scarbinsky, etc).

** WOOOOOOOOSH **
Anyhow, this whole thread is stupid. He wasn't trying to frick anyone up or doing anything to draw a flag. It was spur of the moment. Yes, the dance was silly but we had Houston Nutt as a coach.
I'm not embarrassed.

Sorry I started reading this thread in reverse. I stopped when I saw that.

In the minors we called the developmental leagues Busch because the coaches & players would often be drinking beer in the dugouts.

Pre Madonna is just Debbie Harry. Or maybe the Prophet Jeremiah. One of those.

On a side note, I actually think that fake punt was a good call that was executed poorly. Bama was lucky to stop that. It never really felt like Ark was going to hold onto that lead (that was still when ark lead, right?) and I think the coaches agreed it was a risk worth taking.

Find one neutral website that has said that would Bert did was appropriate.
I'll find you some that say it wasn't:
Clay Travis, who is no friend of Alabama's:
quote:
It's hard to believe Arkansas and Bielema aren't going to have to offer some form of explanation for this.
LINK
quote:
During Arkansas’ loss to Alabama on Saturday, Crimson Tide offensive lineman Cam Robinson and Razorbacks defensive end Hjalte Froholdt got tangled near Bielema on the sideline. It was the type of play that happens hundreds of times without further incident during a football game. For some reason, however, Bielema decided to come onto the field.
After initiating contact with Robinson, he then dramatically stumbled as if he’d been pushed violently. The refs bought into the amateurish performance and threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Bielema put a cherry on top of the silliness with a comical celebratory dance.
LINK
quote:
As you can see in the video below, shared by Anthony Jacks on Twitter, Bielema comes close to Alabama offensive lineman Cam Robinson as a play ended on the Arkansas sideline. Bielema moved closer to Robinson on the field, appears to make the first contact with Robinson and then flops backward, attempting to make it appear as though Robinson had pushed the Razorbacks coach. It drew a flag from the SEC official for unsportsmanlike conduct on Robinson, leading Bielema to do a little jig.
NBC
quote:
During Saturday’s Arkansas-Alabama game, Bielema got himself involved in a scuffle with Crimson Tide lineman Cam Robinson near the Razorbacks sideline.
Robinson had delivered a big hit on Arkansas’ Hjalte Froholdt at the end of a second quarter interception return, and when another Arkansas player got in the face of Robinson, two refs, along with Bielema, quickly intervened. Bielema, however, had other intentions and pretended like Robinson pushed him.
LINK
quote:
During Arkansas’ SEC contest against Alabama this past Saturday, Bielema unnecessarily got himself involved near the end of a play. After Razorbacks defensive end Hjalte Froholdt and Crimson Tide offensive lineman Cam Robinson dragged each other out of bounds near Arkansas’ sideline, Bielema came onto the field and approached Robinson. Bielema then acted like he’d been pushed by the player, which resulted in a flag thrown on Alabama. In the video below, it’s pretty clear that Bielema didn’t even get touched by Robinson.
LINK
quote:
By Ryan Mayer, CBS Local Sports
We’ve become used to players flopping in basketball, soccer, and sometimes hockey to try and draw a call from the officials. Rarely, if ever do we see it play out on the football field.
That takes us to Saturday night when Arkansas was in Tuscaloosa taking on the Crimson Tide. Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema got involved after a play went out of bounds on his sideline and got a call on the Tide after he seemingly got pushed by Tide defensive lineman Cam Robinson.
Except, after watching that video, Bielema looks to have instigated the “shove” by getting in front of Robinson. At which point Robinson halfheartedly extends his arms to move Bielema away from him and Bielema reacts as if he’s taking a charge. He then dances once the official throws a flag, which implies he was hoping to draw a penalty.

Look....the media loves drama.
Saying this was a non-issue wouldn't bring them any attention.
You should know this by now.
