Licking your fingers before throwing a baseball….

is not allowed? Just saw it in the LSU/UNC game. LSU pitcher licked his fingers before attempting to throw it before the umpire stopped it. I’m not trying to be ignorant here, but what’s wrong with that? It’s not like an ointment or pine tar or some other banned substance. I’ve just never seen it until now.

possibility of a spitball.. which can get some crazy movement if done correctly

Hagen Smith did it every time. I don’t know the rule on it though.

Only other time it’s allowed is if it’s agreed upon before the game due to cold weather
