Let me ask you baseball fans a question.

What would you think if the SEC moved the baseball tournament from the Met in Hoover to Rickwood Field in B’ham?
For those of you that do not know Rickwood is the oldest baseball park in the country. It has a lot of history behind it. I think UAB plays one game a year at Rickwood. I’m not really a baseball fan at all but I think it would be kinda cool to hold the SEC tournament there and may even show up to go to a game. I bet all the players involved would enjoy it. Let everyone wear throwback uniforms. I bet the players would enjoy that a lot.

it's a cool place. Less cool at night.

That is true. It’s been a long time since I have been. I went and seen the Barons play one night when I was a kid. The Chicken was there that night. Most fun I ever had at a baseball game.

It would be cool, but I doubt the surrounding area could support the parking needed. I have been to a UAB game there.

Count tell you to be honest. It’s been years since I have been. UAB and someone just played there earlier this season and it’s a annual thing I do believe.

It would be cool to play a game there but not so cool playing an entire tournament there.

It’s definitely an old place. A lot of history tied up in that ballpark.

I mean it's pretty good considering it's the oldest baseball park in the country, but not great.
Might be a cool for a one-off game with throwback uniforms, like RollingwiththeTide suggested.
Think they filmed part of 42 and other movies there over the years.

It is an expense for Birmingham like Legion Field. Tear them both down. The money used to keep these old stadiums up could have been put into a better stadium than what was built in downtown Birmingham.

It would be cool to see everyone playing there in some throwback uniforms. I wouldn’t mind going and seeing a game or two there.

You need a park with modern facilities, locker rooms, etc. I’m not sure if Rickwood has that. You also need a place with enough parking.
I’m in favor of it leaving Hoover. The RV thing is overblown too. This event could be a huge hit in Memphis, Nashville, Dickey-Stephens in LR, or pretty much any double or triple A park in the footprint.
Once the SEC expands to 30 teams, I expect to see this sucker rotate between Dodger Stadium, Yankee Stadium, and Fenway.

Maybe I’m wrong, but isn’t it a private organization that solicits donations for Rickwood’s upkeep?

Not a baseball fan by any means, and Rickwood is a very cool place from a history standpoint. But that's a terrible idea. Nowhere to park over there, especially for RVs. Back in the days when Rickwood was built and getting the most use, Birmingham had trolley cars and better public transportation to get people there. Concessions and bathrooms would be a complete shitshow

Rickwood Field in B’ham?

Very cool looking ballpark though

There is a stadium in downtown B’ham not far from Protective Stadium that isn’t very old. It’s where the Barons play. I haven’t been inside to see a game there but it looks pretty nice from what I have seen of it on tv.

Correct. Owned by the city, but they get private donations.
Rickwood is also a nationally registered historic landmark, so good luck tearing it down.
It's not an eyesore like Legion Field is either, Rickwood has some cool old architecture

Big 12 is having it at Globe Life Park
Astros and Rangers facilities would be nice and you wouldn't have to worry about weather

You just hate to see such a cool and historical site stand idle. She needs the sound of a crowd and the crack of some bats once more in some way.
