The thing is, this is why they go to the games, to "yell"...
Posted on 9/29/11 at 6:21 pm to LarrySellers
Yells are only done during stoppages in play. A&M's crowd is pretty smart concerning football--it'll be quiet enough to hear a pin drop if the O has the ball in a tough spot, but earsplittingly loud on defense.
More than I can say for crowds at, say, baylor--actually witnessed those people get louder when their team was facing 3rd downs. Looking forward to more football savvy crowds in the SEC, to say the least

Yea, screw getting involved in the game and creating an intimidating environment, lets have the students sit back and just watch the game.
Another outstanding reply from one of the most "passionate" fans in the country

The thing is they do it to help their team and think it's intimidating.
What's intimidating is 85-100+ thousand drunk fans screaming at the top of their lungs and banging on metal bleachers. It's a hell of a lot louder than humping.
But hey, if hey wanna do quirky cheers, more power to em, I just say get some hot girls to lead them.

Texas A&M produced more officers than West Point and Annapolis combined in WWII--and continues to produce graduates who go on to serve in the armed forces at a ridiculous rate. No, not all TAMU cadets commission--neither do all Citadel or VMI cadets. It's the exact same thing, on a much bigger scale. Hardly pretend.
we have a military tradition too LINK
you don't see us doing all that lame shite,

LOL
ITS NOT INTIMIDATING, IT EMBARRASSING
you aren't creating a home field advantage,(if you dont believe me as Oklahoma State!!) You are just making yourselves look like a bunch of sissies. No team is intimidated by Male Cheerleaders, they just aren't

Wait, WHAT? Army has military tradition? No shite--tell me more!

for the record, I actually respect more of aTm's traditions than some of the crap from schools in the SEC

---------
Is Armys tradition to dress up like GI Joes and pretend to be A&M Cadets?
because THAT would be pretty Ironic

The number 7 team in the country won by one point? You're right, that is clearly a sign that the 12th Man is not intimidating, and Kyle Field is not a good home field advantage.
You must not be old enough to remember Kyle Field. Ask some of the resident LSU and Arky fans who are old enough to have attended games at Kyle Field. It will fit right into the top tier of intimidating venues in the SEC.

Please, you don't have to tell me anything about Army--A&M had a series with them while I was a student and I have several friends that went to West Point. Not going to denigrate any of y'all's traditions, either.
But don't for a second intimate that every A&M cadet is pretending. Y'all are better than that, I know.

You can save your Baylor jokes for TexAgs or a Big 9 board. Not to be rude, but no one gives a shite about a rivalry between two of Texas' little brothers here.

Aggie fans on here trying to explain/defend traditions are going to face a losing battle here. Fellow SEC fans are going to rip regardless.
That said, I went to A&M because of the traditions that make the University unique. A lot of the SEC schools are identical in a lot of ways, although they all have their own unique wrinkles.
However, no one does Tradition like Texas A&M anywhere. As multiple announcers have said we have the best student section, and one said a couple of weeks ago that College Station is the "Mecca of College Football."
If I had to pick the lamest tradition (that I know of so far) I'd have to say Tennessee playing the opposing team's fight song. I've seen this done in the Big 10 too, and I don't get. We're not on the football field to be buds, we're there to BTHO each other.
Edit: Oh, and spelling out the team name in the pregame. How many SEC teams do this? I've seen Georgia and Arkansas do it, and I think LSU too. Corps bands in general are incredibly lame.

I won't
You're corp cadets do seem pretty "intimate" with each other, FWIW.

To answer the original point of this thread...
I obviously don't have an extensive knowledge of all the random traditions at the different schools, but so far I would have to go with Hoddy Toddy (wtf is that) and Alabama claiming any and every National Championship in sight

Kyle Field has never portrayed itself to be a hard place to win, nor has aTm been a hard team to beat.
Mississippi State is on aTm's level in the SEC.

You think Baton Rouge is intimidating because the fans have synchronized cheers?
No, its intimidating because drunks are screaming in your face and you feel like there is a large probability that they might literally beat you within an inch of your life if you look at them wrong... and you'd be right
and since you asked earlier, I went to Bama... and I realize you probably haven't been there before, but our students dont do much "sitting down". They yell, they scream, they throw bourbon drinks, its just not in unison, and its not some catchy cheer, in fact its usually things you'd wouldn't want to subject young children to
I'd say our stadium is much louder and much more intimidating than the A&M tackle box, and the only "semi-synchronized" chanting we do is the Rammer Jammer, which you'll get to hear first hand ever year after we wipe the floor with you
