Leach was the last vestige of pure, unfiltered authenticity in CFB

In the college football world — and the world in general — everything’s become so corrupted, corporatized, and formalized. But Leach ran counter to all of it.
To many he represented better days, before image and messaging became paramount in our lives.
This loss hurts so many on so many levels, not least of which his family. But it feels like we also lost an avatar of honesty. A symbol of who we used to be, before cancel culture reared its head.
Death tends to make saints of the departed, and I’m not trying to say Leach was one. But he was certainly a good man who wasn’t afraid to speak what he believed. In this world that’s true bravery. And I hope to do better by emulating his example.

He was one of the last great public minds from a better almost bygone era

Well said my friend. I loved this man's interviews as he sounded like one of us, but smarter.

Great post
Leach was a great coach of course. But what made him loved by me and so many others was he was just so sincere and his intelligence in so many areas of life helped me keeping things in perspective.
It’s hard getting my mind wrapped around there will not be anymore quotes by him to reflect on.

Though I never met him in person, Leach always felt like an old friend to me. Even before he coached at State. I can’t think of many other famous people that had the same effect.

I grew up in the panhandle and have many friends that went to Tech. I’m seeing story after story from them of just how personable he was.
Here’s an example of one that was posted.
“We loved watching him coach. We had season tickets during his coaching years at Tech. After we moved to Kingsland we were in a restaurant one night and I saw Coach Leach walking in with his wife and a group of people. The maitre d' walked by our table and heard $&@#% and I talking about him. She told us to go by his table and say hi to him....that he liked to talk to his fans. He brought his kids to Camp Longhorn just down the road every year and always came to Grand Central restaurant here in Kingsland to eat. Well, we didn't go to his table so the maitre d' told him about us, and he came to our table to say hi and shake our hands. Then he said....let me get my wife and let's go outside and take a picture........so we did. A really great guy.....great couple. Our hearts go out to his family.”

Leach seemed either to be unaware or not care about his fame. He continued on being the exact same wacky personable man he always was.

Just that part in my story where it stated he liked to talk to his fans.
Are there any other coaches that you know of that do that one?
I think Leach liked having a conversation with anyone so it’s just his nature.
