Yeah, dipshit...none of us are public figures either. Or head coaches at an SEC school. Who cares what we sound like?

Is that a boom? I think it's a boom.
Posted on 10/26/09 at 7:10 pm to bbvdd
that's a boom. by the way, kiffin may have a lot of followers in the under 30 crowd, but the big UT money folks are struggling with his antics. i don't profess to know them all, but i know some and they don't mind his wild boyz crap, but his publically embarrasing the university is getting old.

Also, to somewhat counter the notion that the SEC can't effect Kiffen's paycheck:
Almost every D-1 head coach (and certainly every SEC coach) has a clause(s) in their contract that indicates that breach of ethics, etiquette, and professional behavior (I'm sure each university defines all of this) can lead to fines and/or withholding of monies owed that coach.
I imagine that, if Kiffen engages in behavior that would be pursuant to what the SEC is trying to encourage him to cease, then UT would probably follow up on whatever clause(s) that is in him contract that speaks to that particular situation.

I think Kiffen is crazy like a fox. He will continue to push, and dare the commish to push back.
His players will be so jacked up, we will all wish for a kinder gentler UT, but I think he is doing a great job for UT.
This act won't work at an elite program, but when you have got to improve a lot, quickly, I think it is smart. He reminds me of Ernest T. Bass. Kind of a nut, but you don't want to mess with him. A lecture on ethics in big time college football is a little hard to take.

This has not been my experience with the UT boosters that I know (including myself).

other than the fact that it is posted in the sec rule book under ethics, ethics doesn't have a damn thing to do with the rule prohibiting coaches (and other reps of the member schools) from publically dissing the refs. ethics, by definition basically is doing the right thing and not cheating. this rule is designed to prohibit college officials from demeaning the refs in public, thus contributing to the public view that the refs are not being honest and thus undermining the image and integrity of the game. also, if this behavior is condoned, the public will view it as OK and no telling what some of the real loonies out there will do. the refs personal safety could be in real trouble. it's a good rule and one that a good commissioner will not condone letting the coaches disregard.

ok, i believe you and i also said i didn't know them all. i know several that donate to the university and they ain't happy. they aren't against the athletic dept. but don't like the school being embarassed either.

He's betting that he can bring a renegade bad boy style to TN, get media attention, lure recruits, and become the U or SC of the SEC. He's a jerk with 4 losses, but is bringing in a strong class.
Posted on 10/26/09 at 7:59 pm to LSU GrandDad
A lot of what Al Davis said about him is true. Tenn is going to get tired of him the more he embarrasses that university.

There is a very small, yet definable, band of UT fans (aka "Fulmerites") who are still bitter that Fulmer was let go, just knew that next season he was about to turn us around, and are looking for any reason to be pissed off at Kiffin.
I agree with you that Kiffin is a bit brash. But you know what, he has our team playing LIGHT YEARS better than the last 3 years (and yes that includes 2 years ago when we backed into the SECCG because we still had Cutcliffe). So for me, what he has done for our team & recruiting far outweighs the fact that Gumps like to complain about him.

I said yesterday that he has done a better job than I thought he would do. I was also impressed with UT's gameplan for us and he (and/or Monte) damn near pulled it off.
However, this thread was not started by 'a Gump', nor are the complaints about Kiffen from 'just Gumps.'
Thanks.

Come now...it was just some good-natured ribbing.
BTW, the guy in your avatar pic is obviously a Gator fan posing as a UT fan. You did see the jorts, right?

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I was searching for a game avatar, but I found some other pics with the same guy on different dates...so he may be an authentic Vol that received the jorts as a gift from a Florida relative. Right?
