It goes back further than that.

1990 Colorado (5th down)

1996 Florida (lost to FSU, beat FSU in the rematch)

2000 Florida State (lost to Miami, who lost to Washington, who lost to Cal)

2001 Nebraska (lost by 4 touchdowns to Colorado, who won the Big 12)

2003 Oklahoma (lost by 4 touchdowns to Kansas State, who won the Big 12)

2007 LSU (lost to Arkansas and Kentucky)

2008 Oklahoma (lost to t.u. "settled on a neutral field" who lost to Texas Tech, who lost to Oklahoma...)

2011 Alabama (21-0)

2016 Ohio State (lost to Penn State, who won the Big Ten)

2017 Alabama (REEEEEEEEE)

2020 Notre Dame

It quite literally ended up that way in 1869 as Rutgers played 2 games vs Princeton. They split the series, finished 1-1 and were both retroactively awarded a NC. So, essentially the HISTORY of CFB NCs is founded on mulligans.

The BCS was designed to select the best 2 teams. It did that without doubt in almost every year. There were some years when #3 was in doubt. 2011 was not one of those years.

A playoff system is designed to accept the probability of repeat (mulligan) games. It will only happen more often with the crying for expansion.

You seem truly butthurt 9 yrs and a GOAT season later; you may want to stop following the sport once inevitable CFP expansion occurs

What?

2011 is the best example in history of this happening.

Ryan Day has already posted this shite in the locker room. Right above the Dabo clipping.

For a coach who always treats his opposition with respect, his daughter appears to be the illegitimate child of Ed O.

Teams that blow a 17-point 4th quarter lead are not deserving of championship consideration.

Mulligan is a redo of the same shot. Neither OU nor Nebraska played the same team that previously beat them in a bowl or NCG.

Biggest mulligan of all time.

Uf lost by 3 in last game of regular season, then 2 games later blow the doors off of their in state rival to win the NC.

I stand corrected, Florida received a Mulligan. I don’t recall how it occurred, but it did in fact occur. It should not have occurred as the NCAA has repeatedly balked at a playoff by stating the regular season should mean something. LSU beat Alabama on its field in 2011 it what amounted to the SEC West title game. It’s BS that LSU had to play them again, let alone that Alabama got into the game without having to play an extra game (Conf Championship game ) Florida’s Mulligan at least occurred after played in and WON a conference championship game.
