The Bama linebacker who caught it and directed the defense to adjust did an excellent job. Don't know which one it was, but he's the one who killed any chance of the play working.

By any team.
Not quite....

I’ve faked a 4th and 11 punt more than once with fantastical results...on my PlayStation.

When Bama is 100% ready for it, you have to audible out of it or take a timeout.
The whole purpose of a fake is deception. If the other team is ready you can't go through with it anyway. You're better off just running a regular play.

Have you seen Bama try to kick field goals?
Either Jalen would have driven 75-80 yards for a TD or a missed field goal. No chance in Hell a Bama kicker is going to make a pressure field goal.
Kirby went Full Bowl Cut.

I dont think the decision was as bad as the actual play call. Would have probably worked if it actually looked like a fake punt and not an extended shotgun

quote:It was worse than that. Bama was playing regular defense. I think the only special teams player on the field was Jalen Waddle.
Bama is in safe formation.

By the end of the first half, I had the highest respect for UGA's staff. They had implemented a game plan that gave them the best chance to win. The athletes had obviously bought into the plan because they were executing with confidence.
Then came the fake punt. For the rest of the game I couldn't stop wondering if Matt Luke had ever made such an idiotic call.

Les Miles made his fakes and there is no way in hell Les Miles wouldn't have punted and put it in his defense's hands in that situation, you're the fricking moron not the man with multiple SEC and a National Championship ring...

Gus has had a ton of stupid calls, but what I saw yesterday is in a league of its own.

It is what it is. When I saw Fields in the game, I said, "Why? Why are we doing this?"
It was a huge mistake. I hope he learned from it.

Probably the stupidest play call in Georgia history without a doubt.

Only been watching cfb for 45 years, so I can't say it was the dumbest call in history; but it was definitely the dumbest I've ever seen... and by far the dumbest with so much on the line. Utterly crippling stupidity.

When I saw the play happening, I was like WTF! I couldn’t believe what I was watching. To answer your question, it ranks in the top 5 coaching blunders.

I will always remember the call that gifted Bama the SECCG. Still can’t believe he called a fake punt in that situation.
