Gene Stallings would like a word. During his seven years in Tuscaloosa he went 70-16-1. He won a national championship in 92, finished no worse than 3rd in the West, and finished 1st in the West 4 of his 7 years.

Nick Saban has gone 51-12 in his 4+ years. He's won the West twice and has one SEC and one National Championship.

Both of those tenures would rank right up there with the best all-time at any of the other Big 6 SEC schools. Of course, fiction can be fun so I understand why you would have made such an idiotic statement.

They are 246-107-3 since Bryant retired. Thats a .673 winning percentage.

By comparison, during the same period UT is 250-99-6 for a .683 winning percentage.

One constant remains. Everyone always has to compare themselves to Alabama.

The same will never be true for the barn.

Impressive. You neglected to mention the 2-1 advantage in national championships Bama has over you during that time.

Additionally, '97 - '06 was possibly the worst decade in Bama history. We finished that stretch 41-41 in the conference and had 4 different coaches, including one who never coached a game and one who was hired in May.

That actually happened, but it isn't as if Bama has been at full strength the entire time either (many of the issues are admittedly our own fault for stupid hires and idiotic boosters).

Alabama dominated the SEC under Bear, that is a complement to Alabama, BUT current is what is important, lifetime is important... If History was the only important aspect to view programs, then Alabama has a long way to go to catch Princeton with their 26 NC....

The seniors currently on Bama's team have a 26-4 record in SEC play with two games to go. Is that current enough for you?

You know something. I'm having the hardest time trying to generate even the smallest shite caring about Princeton. Is it just me?

Well the 73-82 was our worst decade. On probation, coaching turmoil etc. And yet you certainly aren't running to throw back your success in the 70's. Every team has ups and downs, and you don't get a free pass on yours.

I'm not sure your point. If I said let's look at 1970-1999 records as a barameter for success you'd certainly point out that it included your worst 10 year stretch ever. Rightfully so. That's all I'm saying about the current 30 year period - it includes a horrid ten year stretch for Bama, yet we STILL have 5 SEC and 2 National Championships in that stretch. Every team in the conference with the exception of Florida would be thrilled with that. The 2 Nationals in that stretch is only bested by Florida's 3 and tied by LSU's 2. It's been an up and down stretch, but it is still better from a championship production standpoint than 9 of the other 11 teams in the conference. Nothing to be embarassed about.

No I didn't neglect to mention it. Was just stating the facts that Bama wasn't just a run of the mill team since 1982. If you sustain close to a 70% winning percentage over that time you have a damn good program.

What I did forget to mention was how damn good the Stallings era was. He went 70-16-2 and got run off. Saban is 49-12. They both have an 80% winning record.
