Jumpin' Jehoshaphat!
UF didn't win an SEC title for FIFTY-THREE years. UF didn't win any games at all in NINETEEN SEVENTY NINE.
DOORMAT.

Holy shite Walt, nobody gives a frick about 53 years or 1979. It's 2016 and we're going on 12 years since Tennessee has beaten Florida.
That troll doesn't work. Try to dig down deep into your bag to find a new one. Because there isn't one that can beat losing 11 straight times to one rival and 9 straight times to another.

I wish Sutton would've went pro after last season and he is a solid ball player, but as a pure corner Jalen Tabor is better. And Marcus Maye is an elite safety that returned for his senior season.
I would agree that Tabor is probably the best cover corner in the country. Against UT, the question will be more how good of a run support corner he is. Maye is strong at Safety...I do believe Florida has an advantage overall in the secondary...but I also believe UT is much improved and closer to UF than many would think. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nigel Warrior crack the starting lineup by the time the Florida game comes around. They are talking about him like he is the second coming of Eric Berry.
quote:
Lastly, don't underestimate Del Rio. He has more weapons than Florida has had since the Meyer years and he has a strong understanding of the offense. He can and will be extremely effective in getting the ball to playmakers and letting them make plays for him.
I can't underestimate or overestimate Del Rio until I see him take snaps against SEC defenses. He is truly an unknown in that environment.
quote:
The coaching in this game, just like last year, will be huge. Mac got the best of Butch last year, and we'll see how that goes this year. I personally will take Mac over Butch any day. Maybe that's biased, maybe it's not, but I think he is just a better coach.
I think that McElwain did a great job last year putting together an offense with bailing wire and duct tape. With that being said...what did UT in was the 4th quarter soft defense they played with Jancek calling the shots. I believe if they were more aggressive, the outcome would have been different...then again...if if's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.

Not really, i look at them like another Vandy or Kentucky. We have owned the boys from east TN for 60 years.
And yes, UT81, I was around for the backstabbing that went on in 1984 when, after UF had agreed to penalties starting in 1985, some SEC ADs went behind their back and took the 1984 title and yes I was around when we went 0-10-1 in 1979 and yes I have been around for 11 straight seasons of beating the Vo12s and 60 years of going 26-8 against UT. History lesson complete.

From 1916–1991 UT and UF played a whopping 21 times total.

That is correct, there was no rivalry or annual meetings until the conference split in 1992.

I love this quote from 1985:
[UF] Philosophy professor Auxter, whose specialty is ethics, thinks such a reaction only serves to postpone the resolution of the problem.
``By saying we`re not such bad cheaters but they are unjust, it externalizes the problem,`` Auxter said. ``It creates a rationale for how we really earned the trophy and deserved it. You never hear about the cheating anymore.
``This university has a long history of moral insensitivity. There are indifference and complicity with racism. There is also an indifference to academic excellence in deference to maintaining a political buddy system.
``The university tries to build up defenses against criticism of its moral insensitivity. It thinks, `If we can prove we`re No. 1 in football, then that shows we`re really not trashing people.` ``
LINK
Which I guess is what prompts all this, "We'll kick your arse for 12 in a row!" that you see on basically anonymous message boards.

I actually went to the Florida/Kentucky game that year. My Dad is a UK fan. We were driving to Ocala on vacation (we went every year around Thanksgiving). Dad said, let's see if we can get tickets, when we went through Gainesville...we got in for $5.00 for both of us.
The most amazing parts of the game:
1. Liquor bottles being dropped from the stands into the entrance;
2. Florida fans trowing cup lids like frisbees...I've never seen anything like it. They would fly forever.
3. Losing to Kentucky, and chanting "It's great to hate Florida State" since they were hosting FSU the next weekend. Talk about not giving a Fvck. It was crazy.

And only 7 times between 1954 and 1985.
UT beat UF in 2001 at Gainesville; the previous time the Vols won in Gainesville was 1971. Fulmer was on that squad.
So to say that UT has only won 8 games in 60 years is misleading, because there were not that many games played at all, anywhere.
But it is typical of Gator pathos -and bathos- to parade that stat.
