I was in Oxford for the Ole Miss/Alabama game. I thought Snead played hard. He did not play well. But it was evident to me that he was giving his all. He had an off day against a good defense. But he's a competitor.

Snead does have a point here. He basically says, "All the fans who thought we would go undefeated this year are idiots"

Great attitude, huh?

Everybody knows that going undefeated in the SEC is unlikely.....but suppose an LSU quarterback or a Bama quarterback or a Florida quarterback expressed that sentiment.......How "nice" do you think their fans would be to him?

Ole Miss players and coaches in general and the athletics administration, in particular, have gotten used to "sweet" fans who make excuses for their every failure and pat them on the back, when they would be tarred and feathered anywhere else in the SEC for the same pathetic performances when they are capable of much better.

Case in point from this thread?

quote:

Why, for defending himself from our idiot fans?

That has been the core of the problem with our program.....which I have tried to change for years without much success....but as I said yesterday, maybe this has just been the final straw for many fans after decades of being "nice" and enduring misery.....

Enough is enough.....

Really? We have at least 4 defensive linemen that will likely play in the NFL.

Our linebacking corps consists of pure blue-chip talent.

And all these players are experienced, most of them being seniors.

On offense, we have a quarterback who NFL scouts were drooling over at the end of last season, a senior playmaker in McCluster, a strong stable of running backs and receivers, again, all with experience and most of them seniors......

And it is unrealistic to expect to score more than 10 points on South Carolina and 3 on Alabama on our home field?

Please......

I stopped reading after this. Ole Miss is not even close to being on these 3 programs level. The fact that you even made this comment is ridiculous.

I think what Snead was saying is that you need to walk before you can run. The preseason hype and expectations surrounding Ole Miss' football team were just unreasonable. He simply wants the fans to put things in perspective.

Come on, cut the BS.

We beat LSU resoundingly last year and were the only team to beat Florida anywhere, much less on their home field.

We were within an eyelash of beating Bama on their homefield last year.

And both LSU and Bama have had down DECADES in recent history.

If you mean we don't have a 90,000-seat stadium, then you may have a point, but there is enough talent on this team to beat any team in the SEC if not the entire country if they play to their potential.

We are not talking about an overall "program" here, we are talking about a team and their failure thus far to even come close to realizing their potential, largely because their quarterback has failed them. Simple as that.

And the only reason the "program" has not measured up is, as I say, because Ole Miss fans are "nice" to everyone from the Chancellor to the ball boy when they fail to do what they need to do to succeed....and it is time that changed....

Since 1970, Ole Miss has beaten LSU a whopping 12 times. Ole Miss won 9 games last season. I understand that because they did beat both LSU and UF last season that many fans had high hopes for this years squad.

All I am saying to you is what I have said to all the other Reb fans.....string together 5 straight 9+ win seasons then talk. Rebel fans suffer from immediate gratification. Success doesn't usually happen overnight in college football, especially for a program that has been dormant for a half a century.

Rebel fans just needed a dose of reality, which they have now gotten.

I love it when fat-arse fans try to make it seem like they could play in the SEC

So let me get this straight....it is the fans fault the team is not living up to expectations. That is a bit of a reach.

The bottom line is there is a very small window in which Ole Miss has to win right now and the players are simply chocking. Nothing more than that. Sadly, Ole Miss will not pull in the recruiting class to allow them to play at a top level now that Bebe is gone. If only they could have a hybrid coach composed of half Nutt and half Bebe.

There are two separate issues.

One is this team's under-performance, which is not all Snead's fault, but most of it is.....and I am making the point there that his "crybaby" moment is in part due to a fan culture that pampers players and coaches who fail......Is that the reason for his under-performance? It may very well be part of it, or it may be something else more personal.....but there is no doubt that Ole Miss players and coaches are used to not being criticized for failing to play up to potential, whatever that potential is.....

The second separate issue is the "program"--and here, too, the fans and alumni have sat by for decades and allowed a series of Administrations do next to nothing to advance the program and bring it up to SEC standards--indeed, we would probably still be playing in a 40,000-seat stadium if Tommy Tuberville had not come along and demanded better as a condition for taking the job.....and not keeping up with facilities and fundraising and the like is part of what has kept the program down, as opposed to this team....

Program issues aside, though, the point about this particular team is that they are not playing up to potential and this is hardly the first time an Ole Miss team has done so, dating all the way back to Archie Manning days.....and part of that, no doubt, is because they know they are not going to be ripped to shreads for taking the day off the way they would at most other SEC programs......

Snead tries harder than any other person on the team IMO. He's always walking up and down the sidelines trying to keep the players motivated, the same stuff he was doing last year. He's the leader, which is why he doesn't need to he benched. Ad bad as everyone talks about Jevan, our Oline has played 3x as bad. We only have two sec oline starters on the field and one, our center, has a bad ankle.

Ole Miss woes are directly Sneads fault! How can a Qb fail under Nutt who everyone knows is one of the greatest offensive mind in the history of football. Qbs have always excelled under Nutt it makes no sense for him to struggle.

Don't worry ole miss fans it won't be long until Nutt can get his type of QB in the system---a good handeroffer who will just drive the bus.

every team has injuries. Just that other teams use it more as an excuse than others.

Beating a down LSU and pulling an unlikely upset does not put you on equal footing with either program.

Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. You have beaten Alabama 9 times, EVER. Ole Miss is not, and never will be, on Alabama's level.

Ole Miss has had a down half century. Again, no comparison.

This just kills me when people say he played hard.
I bet 99.9% of all college players play hard every week. Sometimes your the bug sometimes your the windshield.

I would feel bad for him, but I look at what Crompton goes through and can't do it. I don't think there has been a more scorned QB in UT history and he has yet to lash out at the fan base, which I would have done long ago. As inept as he is sometimes on the field, he sure has it together off. Receiving death threats is far beyond what that kid signed up for, but he's taken it in stride. Whether he turns it around on the field has yet to be seen, but his character seems to be far above Snead's. That's just my opinion.
