Especially not going to go well in his first start against arguably the best NFL defense next week.

He didn't earn one at Oklahoma.
Did he not finish his grad degree there? I know I remember seeing he had taken a bunch of credit hours and had a really high GPA in his graduate courses. Really smart kid. Will always have a ton of respect for him after losing his starting job to Tua, sticking around to complete his degree in 3 years, and then earning the opportunity, due to his commitment to Alabama, to be in a position to come in for Tua and secure a conference title when Tua went down. And seeing his attitude after Tua came in to win the national title the previous year and how genuinely happy he was regardless of what happened really impressed me. He's a class act all-around.

He didn't need to. LSU scored a grand total of 10 points in two games.

2017 Alabama QB room
2017 Oklahoma 2 deep
4 NFL starters as of this post. 2 Heisman winners and most likely another one on the way in Mac if he keeps performing at a high level on the biggest stage.
Unreal.

I honestly don't think Jaylen Hurt was good enough to make it to the bigs until after he went and spent that time at Oklahoma. I mean, don't get me wrong, he was good and all, but he wasn't really what you would consider big leagues good. Alabama isn't really known for producing a lot of QB talent.
They're trying to build themselves into that though, and to that I gotta say kudos to Sabans for not letting the game pass him by. He's smart enough to realize that 3 yards and a cloud of dust stuff he used to run isn't going to cut it anymore with the way the rules have been adjusted in recent years to give the offense all the advantage. Things like the bullshite, call-it-however-your-feels-tell-ya targeting call are making it so that you simply cannot rely on spending all your Dodge Charger money on defensive studs and win the ball game. You're gonna have to throw it around a bit.
I think in time Alabama may even become known as a "QB school" if they keep it up.
But yeah, Lincoln Riley turned Jaylen into a starting NFL QB. Good for Jaylen. He deserves it. I always liked that kid.
